  • 09/29/1960 - The situation comedy, "My three sons" debuts and runs until 8/24/1972. 369 episodes were made.
  • 09/30/1960 - The "Flintstones" cartoon aires on ABC-TV and runs until 9/2/1966 and finishes with 166 episodes.
  • 10/--/1960 - The CBS-TV humor series, "Candid Camera" begins and runs to September 1967
  • 10/3/1960 - CBS-TV's comedy, "The Andy Griffith show" debuts. Show would have 249 episodes before it's ending on 9/16/1968.

  • A Japanese company introduces the first felt-tip pen.
  • Xerox introduces the first production paper copier machine.
  • The U.S. launches Echo I, the world's first communication satellite.
  • 95% of soft drinks sold in the U.S. are furnished in reusable bottles. But in 1960 aluminum cans are used for the first time.
  • In 1960 Howard Johnson had 607 independently owned restaurants, making it the largest private food distributor in the country.
  • Thomas S. Monaghan, borrows $500 to buy a pizza parlor in Detroit, and renames it "Domino's."
  • Chubby Checker introduces The Twist at the Peppermint Lounge in New York.
  • The Pittsburgh Pirates defeat the Yankees to win the 1960 World Series.
  • Floyd Patterson defeats Ingemar Johansson to regain the heavyweight championship.
  • 2,000 computers are delivered in the U.S.
  • The Academy award for Best Picture goes to "The Apartment."
  • Elvis Presley returns to the music scene after his discharge from the army.
  • "Bye Bye Birdie" opens on Broadway
  • The Beatles begin to make appearances outside of their native Liverpool.
  • Chevrolet introduces the "Corvair" and it's a success with 250,000 produced in it's first year.
  • Ford introduces the "Falcon" which was produced up to 1970.
  • Mercury releases a new car called the "Comet" on March 17. Priced from $1,998 to $2,365. 1967 would be the last year for this model.
