A whole new look for 1963. Many new innovations this year including; self adjusting brakes, optional tilt steering, AM/FM radio and vinyl tops in white or black. (Impala sport coupe only)

A change in standard engines this year as well. A new 230cu in 6 cylinder rated at 140 hp and the 283 was now rated at 195hp. The 250hp 327 and 300hp 327 remained the same as last year however there were now three different 409 engines to choose from; a low performance 340hp 409, a 400hp 409 and the 425hp 409. (last two being high performance)

Special note for this year: On June 10, 1963, the 50 millionth Chevrolet (an Impala SS) is built at the Tarrytown, N.Y. plant.


Some highlights for '63 include:

  • 18 single or 11 two tone colors to choose from.
  • New for 63; Tilt steering or "comfortilt" (Not available on Biscayne-or 3 speed manual cars)
  • New for 63; AM/FM radio (856 were sold)
  • New for 63; Self adjusting brakes
  • Supersport option RPO Z03
  • Heavy duty springs (included on all Supersports)
  • New for 63; Amber front parking lenses
  • Optional vinyl covered top-(only white or black and only on the Impala sport coupe)
  • Optional wire wheel covers
  • New for 63; Optional chrome plated wheel RPO P05 (came with standard hub cap)
  • 8.00x14 Highway Rayon tires with the station wagons and 409 powered cars. (SS convertibles came with standard 7.50x14 tires while sport coupes came with 7.00x14 tires)
  • Optional heavy duty wheels 14x6JK rims
  • Standard engines for '63 were: A new 230cu in 6 cylinder rated at 140 hp and a 195hp 283.
