This is the first time on this web page. I have a 1958 Impala hardtop with the 348,one 4 barrell carb, Turbo Glide trans. my question is, I want to pull the engine fron the car because I have a freeze plug (one or more) leaking at the rear of the block. Do I have to pull the engine AND transmission together ,or, can I unbolt the flywheel from the torque converter and pull the engine only?

You can unbolt the tranny and pull just the engine but, it is actually easier to pull them together. Good Luck.

First off welcome, and secondly you might get a few more replys if you put your question in the engine section of the forum. AMAZING! You have a Turboglide that is still functional? I have done it both ways and I'll tell you right out that pulling engine with trans is a lot easier. First off you have to somehow support the trans while the engine is out and then you will have to get the trans to line up while you fit the engine on to the motormounts. Two jobs at once and it ain't easy. Anyway welcome and I am really partial to 58's:clap as I have one myself.:) Roy

After 47 years of use I just had my Turboglide rebuild last year.:)
Now if it will only last another 47 years I will be a happy man.:cheers

Turboglides are a mixture of powerglide and dynaflow and longivity was not one of it's better attributes. You can always tell a 57 or 58 car that was equipped with one because they had a G on the gear selector for grade. They freewheeled in drive when you let off the gas. 47 years for a turboglide is phenomenal, that one was not put together on a Monday morning at the factory.:rofl Roy
