Do you guys recomend drilling the end of the crank for a bolt to hold the balancer on??

If so, what size, etc.

I forgot that there isn't a bolt on the low HP Chev engines. They just press on.

Got to drill and tap it. I run a SBC damper with a corrected timing tab from ShowCars. They have come a long way on crank harmonic damping in the last 40 years. Poor control over crank harmonics will cost you horsepower.

I bought a bolt and washer for a sbc and drilled and tapped the end of the crank to match. I had a 64 with a sbc in it and the dampener came off and ruined the end of the crank. So I think any of these cars that have 40 year old engines in them need the insurance. Who knows how many times that dampener has been pressed off and on. I'm sure that a little metal comes off each time.:deal Roy

Just a quick note because i just chased the thread in the end of the crank in my '09 and like you said a SBC bolt (7/16"-20 UNF) works great. New kid on the block!

I use the Showcars timing cover tab on the race car and on my car. Both with aftermarket external balance balancers. Timing tape placed on balancer with head off and piston at true TDC. Showcars timing tab is a handy, simple attachment . You guys better leave the sleeping bear alone. models is a mean old fart. :rofl :rofl
