Okay, so over the past two days, I have driven the BelAir more than 150 miles, in all kinds of situations and she never went over 190* !!!! I drove in traffic, on the freeway and just about everywhere, and no high temps !!!! I even let her idle in the driveway for 20 min, after she was up to 190* and the temps never got over 200*.

So to all of you who stuck with me and kicked me in the head enough times to get me to change the pulley, THANKS I guess I just didn't what to believe that the solution to the problem, that's been frustrating me for the past 18 months, was on the shelve in the shop and didn't cost me anything. :bang

I still don't have the total solution for the sloooow, slooow, show cruise, in the hot summer, but I'm close. I will be re-installing the electric fan in an effort to get just a little more air flow at idle. I can pull the temps down with a drive at speeds as low as 15 mph, so just a little more should control the idle.

Maybe I can even put the A/C back in, if everything works out the way I hope.

To everyone who provided thoughts and solutions over the past 18 months, the biggest and heart felt THANK YOU !!!!! :clap :hug It would have been alot easier to write me off, but you all kept fighting along with me, and I appreciate it very much.:cheers :bow

We here at 348/409 care. Some are sentimetal. So does the electric fan work better higher up on the rad or on the lower half? Congrats on your success.:clap John

Good Job Nuts,I'm glad you tried the 6 inch pulley before you spent more $$$. Next try running without a Thermostat,I ran 5 deg cooler without a stat during my testing.Me and Ronnie both run without thermostats and thats our opinions, you might run a little cooler and you might not,but every little bit counts

Jim and Ronnie,

I tried it without a thermostat and it did run cooler up at speed, but heated up faster and higher at idle ? With the thermostat (180 high flow) installed it idled for 20 min and never got over 200*. Without it got to 210* and still climbing in the same amount of time ? It appears the stat is holding the water in the radiator long enough to cool it a little ?

I liked the cooler temps at higher speeds (> 150*) but it seems to work better with the stat in town ? Still need to get a little more air flow at idle and then maybe I can take it out or run a 160* stat.

Nuts, Jim Kwi said , " you might run a little cooler or you might not." You never know until you try it. You tried it both ways and now you know what is best for your particular combination. Kudos to you for staying with this problem and trying different suggestions until you found success. Have a cool summer. :)
