I've noticed these pulleys on EBay and referenced in Show Cars and I don't have access to a 1962 Chevrolet Service Manual.

My engine is not original to the car and does not have this pulley. Is this standard equipment for the 62 409?

all 62 409s without power steering did have this pulley.

Thanks Gearhead

I don't have power steering on the 62'. Looks like I have to find one of these. I'm switching the alternator on this 409 back to a generator as well.

you'll find the 268 generator will be harder to come up with than the idler pulley assembly. good luck

the 1102268 generator was used on the 62 409s. it's a 35amp with heavy duty end frames. also found on some 62 corvettes and some 62 chevy trucks.

Just installed the Idler Pulley from Show Cars sure makes the front of the engine better. Always looked like something was missing before without power streering.

As for the generator, I just changed to the PowerMaster 75 amp alternator (looks the same as the black generator) from the stock generator. The gauge under my dash always showed it to be low in power before (moving up and down) 9 to 12. Now it's always at about 13.5 to 14 and my MSD distributor seems to like it better too. Just another idea for you.
You will still need to find the brackets for the generator.
