Not really a good place to post this, but after all it is a Chevy. Question, I am in the process of replacing the rear wheel bearings on a 77 vette and have a concern. Chevrolet will accept .001 to .008 runout on a rear wheel bearing. Wouldn't you want some preload on a rear wheel bearing? I recall 10 years ago working at a Chevrolet dealer a tech set the preload like a pinion bearing. Maybe not correct per Chevrolet, but worked better. He has since passed an all other techs have moved on. Has anyone here done this? He also removed the press fit from the bearing to the axle shaft. My outer bearing has no press fit. The inner has enough to make me happy. HELP!:dunno

I do these bearings all the time, .001 to .008 leaves a loose wheel when all is done , i try to have zero end play when i'm done !!
There in no need for an interferace fit on the inside bearing, there is a solid spacer & a thick shim. I hone the bearing & makes a much simpler installation.
This works and i have had zero failures in 35 years .:dunno :dunno
Give me a call , i have more advice if you want it ??????
