i am facing a major delima. i was just offered a 55 chevy convert. i have been eying this car for 12 years. in order to buy and get it going i will have to sell almost everything i have (automotive anyway) i was already selling a bunch of the stuff anyway but i just committed to a big dollar bodywork/paint job on my nomad. there is no way i can do both! i was going to build the nomad with a 348 tripower, all that would have to go. so the problem is, small block convert or 348 nomad. any thoughts would be helpful.

Both are very cool.
But I think the experience of driving with the top down far out weighs owning a really cool "wagon".
In the long run the value of the convertible is going to be higher than the Nomad.
I would love to have either.
Tough decision for sure :scratch .
Only you know which one gets you more excited. Good luck on making a decision.

Well Scott, you should know deep down, what you really want.
I guess it all depends on how long you want it to take to arrive at your goal, what
you are willing to let go to arrive there, etc.
I'm sure most everyone here on this board would say build the Nomad with the
48. That would be my choice, anyway.
Another small block chevy:yawn: .
Of course, it would be cheaper, and quicker, to build. But boring.
How often do ya see a Nomad around here ?
A Nomad with a W engine, yet ?
My 2 cents.

I'm not trying to influence you one way or the other but just a few things to consider:
I did a 10 year ground up restoration on a 55 convert and when I finished it was beautiful and had been my dream car, but I was afraid to drive it. Having put so much time and effort into the car, I couldn't bear the thought of anyone stealing it, hitting it, keying it, or just slashing the top. If you drive it you can't let it out of your sight or bad things may happen. I decided that I wasn't enjoying the car like I had planned to since I felt that I had to keep it locked up to protect it. I traded it for another project, my airplane, but that's another story. Bottom line is be sure that what you build is what you can enjoy unless it's just to sell.:dunno

Don't worry about giving the wife away. If you sell the house and move into the garage, like dq suggested, the wife will go all on her own! :rofl
