hi guys. Im wanting to put an electric winch on my car trailer.Getting real tired of the come-along method. Some of the cars i load have flats or rusty bearings so they roll kinda hard.Is a 2000lb winch enough? should i mount a battery next to it or use the trailer plug wiring? Im guessing many on here have already done this.Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I've used a cheap Harbor Freight Electric winch ( $50 on sale) for three years now and it works fine.. It has a detachable base which I welded in the bottom of the front tool box and cut a hole for the cable to go out..
I think it is rated for 2,000# and pulls my Impala up with no problems. I wired long cables so I can just hook to my truck battery and not bother with a dedicated battery.,

old school's system sounds good. I wonder if he has used it on adverse cars though with axle problems or tires. One suggestion put a 40 amp circuit breaker in line next to the positive clip that you are putting on the battery post.

For hard pulls, you can always put a pulley on whatever is being pulled and run the winch cable through the pulley and back to the trailer. This will double the pull strength to 4000#. Works at half speed but better than hand winching..
Harbor Frieght has a 3000# 12 volt winch on this month for $79. Double that cable and it will pull 6000# !
