The following is a resoloution of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors to
ban the Blue Angels performance there in Oct. during the annual Fleet Week celebration. The resolution is authentic and a recommendation has been made to adopt it. I am ashamed that the people who proposed this resoloution claim to be citizens of my country.
:evil  :takethat :nono1:

Resolution seeking a permanent halt to the annual
Blue Angels air show over the City of San Francisco.

Whereas, Pursuant to Environmental Code Section 101 of the City and County of SanFrancisco, all officers, boards, commissions and departments shall implement the Precautionary Principle in conducting the City and County affairs; and

WHEREAS, the Precautionary Principle requires public servants to take anticipatory action to prevent harm and through exploration and careful analysis select courses of action that present the least threat to all; and,

WHEREAS, The Blue Angels is an elite Navy exhibition squadron that tours the United States to perform air shows, involving dare devil maneuvers and tight flight; and,

WHEREAS, Blue Angels air shows have not occurred without incident or loss of life; and,

WHEREAS, Over the past 60 years, the air show has resulted in 26 fatalities, most recently on April 21, 2007 Beaufort County, South Carolina, when Blue Angel pilot Lt. Cmdr. Kevin J. Davis, crashed with his plane into several neighborhood homes, killing himself and injuring eight people on the ground; and,

WHEREAS, Each October, the Blue Angels performs an air show over the City of San Francisco as part of the Fleet Week; and,

WHEREAS, Based on the recent history and the style of their performance in which the slightest error by a pilot or a mechanical malfunction has been known to have disastrous effects, the Blue Angels air show poses an unwarranted risk to life and property in the densely-populated, urban environment of San Francisco; and,

WHEREAS, The Blue Angel F/A-18 Hornet jets make a considerable amount of noise pollution with volume rising to levels that exceed legal limits for the civilian community; and,

WHEREAS, When the aircraft fly their simulated strafing runs over the concrete and glass canyons of San Francisco’s high-rise buildings, the volume is magnified to ear splitting and nerve shattering levels; and,

WHEREAS, San Francisco is a Sanctuary City for many immigrants from war torn countries and home to thousands of veterans of war who have experienced air bombardment and are at risk of being traumatized when the Blue Angels perform; and,

WHEREAS, The jets also terrorize small children, seniors, pets and local wildlife ; and,

WHEREAS, The City and County of San Francisco has taken steps to contribute to the effort to stem global climate change and to avert the catastrophic onsequences of air pollution, nevertheless, the Blue Angels spew tons of toxic exhaust during their flyovers; and,

WHEREAS, This is a time of under-supplies of crude oil and its byproducts, the F/A-18 Hornet wastes an inordinate amount of jet fuel; and,

WHEREAS, The Federal deficit and national debt have risen to levels never before imagined, and the people of San Francisco have suffered from Federal cuts to vital programs; and,

WHEREAS, The City pays for additional support from the police and fire departments while waiving the normal $25,000 fee to the military; now, therefore, be it RESOLved, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco support the permanent halt to flyovers by the Blue Angels; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors call on Senator Barbara Boxer, Senator Dianne Feinstein, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Tom Lantos to use all resources at their disposal to bring a permanent halt to unnecessary flyovers by military aircraft.

If this makes you as mad as it makes me,I encourage you to write or email these less than "Honorable" politicians and let them know how you feel. They will of course, ignore you since you aren't one of their constituents, but it will probably make you feel better. I personally will never set foot in San Francisco or do any business there until this anti-US regime is removed.
Gay pride parades are OK but the US Military is NOT welcome.

If they are so concerned about aircraft noise, pollution, and fear of crashes shouldn't they also close San Francisco Internatonal Airport?:scratch

Cecil,
Well said. I couldn't agree more.
Remember, this is the same city and "honorable politicians" which refused the battleship U.S.S. Iowa for memorial/display purposes because she is "an instrument of war".

A 1000 sq ft apartment with no off street parking rents for over $2400/month, gas costs well over $3/gallon today, milk in SF costs over $4/gallon, and SF has one of the highest homeless populations per capita of any metropolitan city.

The DOD has spent hundreds of million$ on environmental restoration at the Presidio and given much of the base to the city for development; which they then sold for a profit.

They can't or won't solve the above problems, yet they have time to "solve" a "problem" like the Blue Angels.

Sanity rallies, still under siege, prognosis uncertain

August 15th, 2007 by lex (http://www.neptunuslex.com)

A committee of the San Francisco board of supervisors rejected a proposal to ban the Navy’s Flight Demonstration Squadron from performing during Fleet Week celebrations, dealing a blow to Bay Area barkers and other assorted busybodies who chiefly concern themselves with the banning of everything not otherwise compulsory:

San Francisco’s skies are safe for the Blue Angels. A Board of Supervisors committee Monday rejected a measure that would have called for a permanent end to the high-flying, aerobatic show that happens yearly during Fleet Week.

The committee voted 2-1 to table the measure, authored by Supervisor Chris Daly, effectively killing it. But Daly, who cited public safety and noise concerns as his reasons for proposing the ban, promised to continue pushing it.

The Fleet Week show brings hundreds of thousands of visitors to Pyongyang, er......I mean... San Francisco every year, and provides a major economic injection to the city. Supervisor Daly promised to pursue his proposal to ban the Blues in front of the full Board, citing his bowel-quaking fear that Sound of Freedom might frighten young children, seniors, pets and the ghost of Harvey Milk.

I made up that last bit about Harvey Milk.

But still.

The Navy and San Francisco have a storied history, albeit one that has become a little more uncomfortable with each successive decade that passes. The Blues are a chief source of recruiting for the Navy, although, given the city’s politics (not to mention the demographics), it’s an open question whether the JP-5 aviation fuel spent there would not be better spent somewhere more… welcoming?

yep, why waste good airtime on people who dont wanna see it?. i can tell you that the people of maryland would appreciate another show.

oh crap..., another one of walkers long stories..........................

the first year i lived in this house in libertytown, i was painting the shutters on a cloudy 1994 august saturday morning and heard a very unusual plane sound. now, there are planes and flying lawnchairs all over here but this was different.
i nearly fainted when a nip zero appeared in an open space followed shortly by a mustang, a corsair and some sort of nazi plane. later a ww2 shiney aluminum colored bomber flew over so close i could see the rivets. (think it was a B-17)
what i didnt know was that the confederate airforce was doing a show in Frederick. i went and filmed it every year, awesome ground show, the enemy planes would straif the runway, giant bombs would ignite and the american planes would take off after them with guns blazing. then the jappers and germans would fly out of sight with a trail of smoke pouring out. awesome show.
but now they are gone. shame. wonder if some govt. bozo's told em to scram?
