View Full Version : My 62 Build update

Progress continues on my 62 build, with hopes of making GoodGuys in Fort Worth at the end of next month. I installed my front and rear glass this evening along with the interior garnish moldings. I don't lack too much to finish the interior except one small snag. I just found out the rear seat that was in the car, when I got it, is from a four door and not a two door. The lower seat is round on the front instead of square so my cover does not fit. Now the hunt is on for the correct rear seat.
I finished the exhaust last night, and mounted my new cheater slicks for the first time. I couldn't wait to see how they looked. Like a kid at Christmas, I was grinning ear to ear.
Wiring is next , and I hope to be able to fire the motor for the first time pretty soon.

Dave,
A friend of mine had that problem on his 66 Nova. 4dr backseat with rounded corners going in a 2 dr hardtop.....he just fabbed the square corners, padded them and the upholstery went on just fine. On the Nova the corners were the only difference in the two seats. I wouldn't be surprised if the 62 full size seats are the same way.
Anyway it might be less expensive than buying a new seat bottom.:dunno

Impala and Belair seats are different also.

It took me a little looking to realize that the Impala had arms rests, and were narrower. We have every model in our junk yard up here, except 2 door sedans. The hunt is on. I was hoping to find one instead of build one.
Were the 61, 62, 63,64 rear seat bottoms the same for sedans?

Belair/Bisq. should be the same long bottom frame 59-64. Maybe just 61-64, but I think 59 and 60 were also the same. The shorter Impala seats fit if you use the pieces for the arm rest and ashtrays and the upper filler piece. Speaker grill in the upper seat half on Impalas.

Here's a link to Hurst Racing tires in Oregon. They have the original molds. I bought the small pie crust in 15" with the cheater grooves. This is the third set from them. The other two were for a couple of pontiacs. Mine were recapped on new Goodyear Wrangler casings. Be sure and pay the extra to get the sidewalls "scrubbed" of all the lettering.
Here's a hint. If you know any one who posts on the H.A.M.B. board (hokey a$$ message board) or the jalopey journal, and is an alliance member, you can get a 15% discount. It helps to cover the freight.

good info.....I have a buddy that has a set of these tires and he took a buffer and some worn sandpaper to the sidewalls to remove the lettering on his. Very cool tires and company. Look great too!

Very cool. cant wait to see more pics. What wiring are you using? I've done 2 ron francis systems and loved them both.

I've used the Ron Francis and American AutoWire system in the past with very good results. Because this car is so basic, with heater delete, no radio, mechanical Stewart Warner guages, etc., I am using the stock harness and rebuilding it. I used a three wire alternator, and dumped the voltage regulator in favor of a single pole power lug mounted on the radiator support.

Dave.
Very nice tire and wheel combo. I've always liked the black rim look (rear wheels) for many of the 50's and 60's muscle cars.
I've pulled the rear hubcaps and repainted the rims gloss black. Spinner hubcaps still up front. I'm running modern whitewall radials all around.
The deep dish chrome reverse wheels like Aubrey was using on the stocker is another favourite.
Keep up the good work.
Ron
