My father-in-law is retiring and wants to sell his 1962 bel air with a 409/425 and th350 and posi. Runs and drives well. He just doesn't drive it much anymore and wants it to go to a good home.

It is of driver quality and was repainted in the 80's and has some rust starting to show behind the back wheels. Basic interior work done and still in good shape. Was originally a blue 283 car and is now white with black interior.

Engine was installed a couple years ago and the underhood surfaces were painted black and it looks really good.

He is not dead set on a certain price but I know would not take less than 10K and has hopes of getting around 13K. I am sure that he would be willing to visit with any parties that are interested.

We are located in NE nebraska. Contact me via email and I will have him give you a call.

That looks like a VERY reasonable price for that car.

agreed, I would be surprised if the car has not yet sold. Lots of members know that is a good buy.

Here in SoCal that car would sell for about $20K, assuming it is in as good condition as it looks in the photo. That is if it is a big port 409 engine and not a lo po pretender.

Yes the engine is the real deal. It is a car 656 block with the 583's I think, I would have to look but I don't think it has the 690's.

The carbs are not the right numbers, but it runs good but for a touch of hesitation when you get into it quickly...just a acc pump problem that we haven't yet looked at.

It is a solid car and there has been a lot of interest just from this posting. I have a pack of 12 pics for those that are interested. He will get the sale wrapped up this week if you are interested.

I just don't want to spend a lot of time fighting with getting it sold. We have owned the car for 22 years and it has done us well.

Got 13 grand?

I would love to buy that car, perfect car to get back into drag racing with, but I would need to plan for it, like sell my 64 Impala first. Oval track pavement racing is getting even more expensive lately and they are drag racing at California Speedway now. Even like the white paint and Turbo 350.

Thanks so much for all the responses about the car. I am amazed at the size and power of this website. I have always leaned on you guys for the correct info about 409's.

The hesitation in the engine has been fixed, he had a chance to look at that today.

We have had several offers so far and he is most likely going to wrap up the sale in the next day or so.

Thanks for the kind words about the car....it was my wife's car in high school and we are praying it goes to a great home.

[QUOTE=wagon409;80394]Yes the engine is the real deal. It is a car 656 block with the 583's I think, I would have to look but I don't think it has the 690's.

I was closely going over the pixs of the car and engine thinking of making an offer when I notice the oil dipstick was on the rear drivers side of the block. I seem to recall that all 409s had the dipstick on the front passinger side of the block. It is wrong to assume that this engine is a 348 and not a 409 as advertised.:nono1:

Just my .02 cent.

I called home and sure enough the dipstick is on the drivers side. I did not catch that when I installed the engine. I do know for a fact that the block is a 656 block. I remember that because we on this board were having the big discussion about if 656 was a car or truck block and people said it was a truck block. I thought crap, maybe we just spent all that money on a truck engine. So we pulled a head and it is a fresh car block.

This confirms that it is a 409. Another thing is that the rear flange of the crankshaft is shaped other than the circular 348's.

The only thing I can figure is that the pan must be a 348 pan......that is from the previous owner's deal......don't like it, but that's the way it is I suppose.

We will gladly supply specific numbers and such to those parties that are currently dealing on the car with Dan. The deal will be wrapped up today.

Thanks for pointing that out.
