Has anyone put disk brakes on a 58 Chevy with 14" wheels? Is it even possible? I hate to get rid of my chrome smoothies and new tires but I would like to have better stopping power. I did convert to a dual master and would like to do the rest. Thanks!:dunno

I did on my 62, but I had to get rid of the stock rims (as the DB housing comes into contact with the rim), and get a set of 14" x 7" Rally rims. They have just enough clearance. I got them at the Car Shop in Orange Ca. Summit Racing also carries them. Read this thread here. Good luck. http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/169231/

The original steel rims will rub on the upper front edge of the caliper. Other 14" rims can fit, you should check yours first. The original rims rub by very little and slight grinding of the caliper can allow for clearance. There are two kits available basically, small and large GM caliper, the kit using the large GM caliper (2 piece bracket) will definitely not clear. Both use the 11" rotors.
You can test fit your rim on any 1955-1964 disc brake car.
