Hi Guys
Drove to my local strip last night (www.wsid.com.au) for some off street grudge match racing. My mate Luke came out with me in his 68 727 440 Road Runner clone.
Well I blew his doors just about clean off!!!!!:D
We were the only muscle cars there so the crowd loved it.
The track was a bit loose and not in the best condition. I was running low twelves. Luke was running high to low thirteens without much traction.
On my last run with slicks, through mufflers and pump gas I cut a .211 light with a 1.796 sixty footer and ran 11.975 @ 117.61 MPH. :brow
After the smoke had cleared I bolted my street radials back on and cruised home. :D

I guess like they say,,, There's no replacement for displacement.:deal
An eleven second street car is really impressive but the 117.61 mph figure is especially good. I ran it through this calculate and it predicted an ET of 11.27 :beerbang http://www.wallaceracing.com/etcalc.php
This calculator probably only really applies to a race only car with near perfect traction and gearing but it's still interesting.
Way to go.:beerbang

Yes Jim, I agree... it's the MPH :beerbang
482 inch... looks like around 500 horsepower
Didn't Tony Schafer ( Day Automotive ) build a street 482 inch engine, which made 573 HP on the dyno ? I think it had a single carb.

Very nice. Sounds like a very cool car. And in street trim To. Thats great. Ever thought about MT et streets, Then you wouldnt even have to change them at the track!

Yep, Tony's engine was right around 573hp. I'm pretty sure it had twin 500 Edelbrock carbs. Travis Horton had a really fast 409 stroker with a single carb, I think Tony also built that engine.

I have friends who have had good success with the M/T streets. After I wear out my slicks I'll be switching over to them for sure. :)

I love them. I dont leave home without them. The best part is when people ask what it runs. I tell them just as you see it. itll do mid 12's. I drive to the track, put on a helmet. Race, drive home. Street cars are so much fun!

I remember those days......drive 28 miles one way to the track with slicks & a floor jack in the trunk (ET Streets weren't out then and Indy Profile SS or Sportsman Pros wouldn't hook) and run 8.0's @87 (1.80 -60') all day then drive home. All the punks in there Mustangs hated me!!! Sometimes I wish I'd never gotten it stuck in my head that I want to go 6.50's (1/8th mile track here). I've always kinda planned on slowing the car back down by making it more streetable again once I make it there.

1961BelAir427, good stuff:beerbang how close have you gone to 6.50's with the 427? Do you gear your car differently for the 1/8th track?

Just 7.30's so far. I think I will be almost there on my next trip to the track. The last time I went my convertor (10" HD with Anti-Balloning Plates) wouldn't stall past 1800 RPM without pushing my car through the lights. The car left VERY lazily for the first 30 feet or so and then took off. I was hoping for around 4,000 RPM stall out of it. My times were: 1.76 - 60', 7.38 - 1/8th @ 96 MPH and it had zero weight transfer off the line. With my old combination (Mild 454/2800 Stall) it used to pull the driver's tire about 8 inches off the ground (and the passenger's a hair once in a while!!) & my best times then were 8.05 @ 87 MPH with a 1.800 60 foot. So I went about 7 tenths quicker and 9 MPH faster but my 60' only improved by .04. I believe once I go back (if it hooks) I should run some 6.80's or so based on my MPH. 96 should equal high 6's & I know I should pick up a couple more MPH from the first 30 feet or so too. I have put in an 8" TCI that is rated at 5,500 RPM and both TCI and Comp recommend for the Camshaft I'm running. Hopefully I'll make it back soon, but I'm in rollbar LIMBO weighting on a buddy. Ya'll know how that goes.:doh One of the ways I'll slow the car after I run the 6.50's is going back to that LAME convertor. I know it will be perfect for street tires and street racing. (If I did that sorta thing:brow )
My gearing with both setups has been 4.88:1. Factory rear and Posi before out of a 60 wagon with 3 on tree and OD and now a 67 Camaro 12 Bolt with 33 spline spool, C-clip eleminators, and Moser Axles. So far my rear suspension is completely stock, but I am going to use a UMI adjustable upper control arm, hopefully METCO aluminum LCA's or UMI again, and I'm going to try and make a set of coil-over shocks fit using basically the stock upper shock location and coil-over brackets at the rearend. I have a set of 5.13's and some 4.56's, but I'm not a rear set-up guru so I might not get around to trying those. With the hydraulic cammed 468 the 4.88's had me pretty much maxed out in the 1/8th. With the roller cammed 427 I believe I could run the 1/4 with no problem of winding out. When I get some safety built in I can go down to Silver Dollar Raceway and give that a shot.
