I`ve been chasing the cause of oil spewing out the oil filler tube on my rebuilt engine. It has been frustrating to say the least !
I looked at everything I could but didn`t find anything that would point to any problems.
The engine is running flawless and just couldn`t put my finger on the cause.
I took a compression test, then a leak down test but nothing was out of line for a low mile rebuild.
The other day a few buddies and me had a brain storm looking at the engine and one thought was the oil filler tube cap was rideing up and the flex fan was moving so much air it might be causing a vacuum at that point sucking the oil out.
Well thats just what was happening! The piece of ford cap I had is junk.
The reason I bought that cap was it had no logo and LOOKED good.
I replaced it with a Mr.Gasket one that has a rubber grommet that is pushed into the tube holding it securely in place. The bad one just has the two spring steel arms that go into the tube
IT WORKS and cured the problem.
I wanted to share this with you so you won`t have to go through the frustration I just did. Big problem,,,,,,,,,easy fix!!!:D :D :D

Thanks for the info dq. I have been looking for a replacement for my crappy two prong cap. I was thinking of going with a closed type tube with twist on cap but this would be much easier, cheaper, and better looking. Do you have a part number for that cap?

Anybody remember the late 50's, early 60's F-o-r-d caps? They had an air siphon break skirt type of plate on them, just down from the main cap area, to stop the fan air from pulling aerated oil out the pipe.

(Edit) Reply/New Topic features wouldn't work this moirning, so...

I wouldn't run right ouot and buy the F-o-r-d part, it is a clip type filler cap, no gasketing, and would probably leak on anythig but a F-o-r-d, just out of spite.
