I've been looking (and on a few occations got close) on ebay but, too late to make a bid on it. I just haven't been lucky enough to find a fan shroud to a 348 for my 58. Anyone know of one for sale?? :scratch Thanks~

I have a very nice 1958 348 fan shroud that I will sell $125. You will have to pay for shipping from Richmond, Virginia. If you are interested, email me at ronmartin737@comcast.net and I will email you photographs. Ron

Just wondering...my car was original 6 cyl. But I've been told that the 1958 348 fan shroud is unique to that engine/car and is different from the small block version, any one know for certain? The one in the Ebay ad says for both 283/348.

From what I've been able to gather (i.e. buying the WRONG shrouds) is that Gm cars, with the 283 cu.in motors, received a three ribbed shroud and the 348 cu.in version recieved a two ribbed shroud for the 58 model year. The one on ebay is for (what I believe) the 283 version, although it states that it CAN be used for either version. The three ribbed shrouds WILL work for the 348 cu.in but, if one is doing a CORRECT restoration then finding a two ribbed shroud is needed. Just my 2 cents on this.

P.s. Thanks Dan (tripower) for providing the ebay link~

I am not sure but I think the 3 rib can be cut down. Others here will know. How are you coming on your car. I would like to see it some time.

The fan shroud in that EBay auction posted above IS NOT a 348 fan shroud. That's a 283 with no AC fan shroud. Here's the breakdown on '58 fan shrouds:
6cyl had no fan shroud.
3 ring fan shroud- 283 non-AC
2 ring fan shroud- 283 AC & some 348
1 ring fan shroud- 348
Does anyone know why two different fan shrouds were used for the 348s? I can't find a pattern (carburation, AC/no AC, LevelAir/no LevelAir...).
You can't cut a 3 ring fan shroud down and have it look like a real 2 ring. I looked in to doing this with the 3 ring shroud I have, but the rings aren't located in the same positions.
A 3 ring fan shroud will work with a 348, but if you are running more than one track of belts, you might have a clearance issue. The generator belt itself is getting kinda close to the shroud.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if the two ribbed shroud is what I'm REALLY suppose to be putting on this 348. It doesn't have A/C and I'm running only a one belt pulley set-up. Does that mean that it should have the ONE ribbed shroud?? :dunno Boy... I'd sure like to know before I add to the collection of "wrong" shrouds I already have. FM~

According to Auto City Classic, the 1 rib is for A/C 348 cars, 2 rib on non-A/C 348's.

Also, Thank you Delivery and WSSmolick for clearing up the one rib vice two rib shroud issue for 348's. It put me back on the "two" rib shroud hunt.

1958_Delivery might have it down. However, I seem to see about as many 1 ringers as I see 2 ringers, and I don't think AC was that common on '58s. I don't know. I went with a 2 ringer for my '58 Impala, which is non-AC. Maybe the factory had a surplus of the 1 ringers and installed them on non-AC 348s as well. The fan would be in the same location since the non-AC 348 fan used a 2 1/2 " spacer. But I do know that the 2 ringer was for 283 AC also. A 3 ringer won't fit this application due to either belt or compressor clearance.
