the motor went 10.70`s in a 62 bubbletop 3600lb race waight, my car should chime in around 3900-4000lbs with me in it. i just want 11`s out of it on street tires.

Hi Tom

Thanks for sharing. Its always a rush to see AND hear these great classic cars with a W engine.

Could you post any additional details of the engine? Cam...compression ratio...CID...standard 409 crank? etc.

When you had this engine in the 62'...what rpm did you launch and what shift points.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Tom

Sounds like some serious grunt there. :beerbang

When you say street tyre, are you referring to a full treaded street radial or a (for example) M/T street drag radial? Traction could be big issue with that much mumbo. :bow

ok, to answer come questions

i got the motor out of a 62 bubbletop, 3600lb race weight, 4-speed, 9" with 4.88`s. the guy is a engine builder down in NC.

its a 63 block, .060, stock stroke, 13to1, solid roller(i forget the exact lift, was in the mid .600 range) really worked 690`s, 63 4bbl intake all hogged out, 1 inch spacer, im putting on a BG prepped holley 850( not the carb in the vid). im gonna run it like that for now, then switch to the walden 2x4 intake i got.
motor dynoed 585 at the flywheel( according to the gentleman i got it from)

he shifted at 7000rpm, and ran 10.70`s @123 on slicks

im gonna run 4.33 gears, and shift low 6000 rpm( i dont want to cage my car)
basically im going for a 11 sec street car that looks mostly stock( i have my gagues in the glove box, autometer tach in factory housing, etc) i might even put my steel rims and dog dishes back on it

i will be going to the chassis dyno soon, so i will post those numbers and vid.

as far as tires, probally et streets, i dont think the drag radials i have will hook good with the stick( worked real good with my sbc/auto combo though 1.80 60")

and Mike, i will be at new england next year for sure!!

funny you guys say that...........

i got my car in 1994 when i was a sophmore in high school. thats about the time the internet became popular. I just chose the name "no409" cause my car wasnt a 409 car.

its been a long road with her, she`s my baby. i gotta dig for them, but i pulled over and took pics of when my odometer said 63409!

i always wanted a 409 after my dad said he test drove one in 62 and his dad wouldnt let him buy it, cause it was too fast!( thats all i needed to hear)

it felt AWESOME to actually drive MY car with a 09 and 4-gear last sat.

i cant wait to go to the track next season, and dyno soon. i really cant describe it.

its awesome! 409`s rule. period.

thanks for all the compliments guys, and all the help over the years. you guys are the best!

!!

That engine is impressive !!!!!

One question though,,
How you gunna run the Lamar intake? Is it the new one ??
If not it is designed for use on a Z-11 heads not the 690 heads,,dq

dq, Don't understand. We ran the Lamar Walden intake on 690s for two years.:dunno :dunno

DQ ,

i got the old intake for 690`s. it should work good for my combo

i just want a fast , stock appearing, 63 chevy that runs the numbers. if it runs in the 12`s ill still be happy, cause its a 409-4-speed, not a SBC/auto. i cant wait to dyno r/w #`s

i want 400hp@the rear wheels minum

i will vid the pulls, and any burnout vids inbetween!

Maybe there is more than one intake from Lamar Walden.

My mistake I guess,,, It`s been a while but I thought that he only had the Z11 style and the one for the 690 is only designed for the big strokers,,,:doh

His website doesn`t show the Z11 one,,,

That one is definatly a Z11 intake !! It is much taller them the one I posted.
I could be wrong but I don`t think in this case I am,, wrong that is,,,

And no409,,, getting into the low 12`s should be no problem !!!:brow
