View Full Version : eos replacement?
Here is something I found on A camaro sight I was on. Looks a little expensive, but no more than eos.

Thanks for that JR. I've been looking for a replacement for GM's discontinued EOS. I was all set to buy it at their website until I saw a
$16 shipping fee. :evil (give me a break!) I canceled that out and bought a six pack on ebay and saved $7. :D

We were talking about this over the weekend and a mechanic friend says that MOPAR still makes a version of EOS and markets same. I have not had the chance to chase it yet but I think that is true.

Engine Oil Supplement. Used primarily to aid proper engine break-in.

Tommy, I believe EOS stands for " engine oil supplement ". I have never used it , but many members do.

Tommy:
It is not a stupid question, but if you follow the link above in the original note in this string to the ZZDplus web site it will do a great job of explaining. As a basic thought EOS adds back to the oil zinc and other high shear friction modifiers that are required for flat tappet cams to survive both in break in and during continued use. Some of the other strings here deal with flat cams and engine failures that can be attributed in aprt anyway to oil failures in these "obsolete" W motors. We all have enough invested in our "obsolete" technology that we should chase it down and understand it.

There has been much discussion on this subject. I was under the impression that the ESO was for break in only until a few weeks back I was reading on another thread that it should be used on every oil change. Also to use one of the racing oils that still use the zinc. I think I am going to switch to the amsoil and use the EOS as well. I just posted another thread were my 348 is missing and am suspect that the cam may be on its way to flat as a result of not using the EOS or the racing oil.:bang Hope that is not the case but will get some help here.
I think an $11 bottle of Zddp plus and a good oil with an api rating of at least SL
is all we can do to protect our investments. To bad we didn't know about all of this sooner. Just hope we haven't done any long term damage to our W's.
