I have a 1958 bel air with the 348. It is leaking antifreeze out of the transmission inspection hole (big hole at the bottom of the transmission just behind the engine) I have a feeling it is a freeze plug between the trans and the engine...Is this common for the 348 or does anyone know if this is known problem. I am hoping its leaking from somewhere else. Any help would be great !!!!!

The freeze plugs under the flywheel are not any different than others used on the engine, they do rust and leak after time.

Freeze plug probably culprit. Is it a bad leak or just a little bit? Maybe Barrs Leak could handle the repair. John

Freeze plug is the first thought. If one has rusted the others can't be far behind.

Im sure thats the case, I guess Its high time I get a lesson in pulling a 348 from a very big car! Thanks for the responses. it only has 70K on it and its an Arizona car,Goes to show that not all parts you can can rust also. If you want to see some nice pictues of the car follow my link to my personal page. Thanks again !

Freeze plugs usually rust from the inside out so it really doesn`t matter where the car comes from.
