Hi All,

I seem to remember that the 409 oil pan and the BB oil pan are the same bolt pattern, just different configuration depending on the suspension.

Am I correct? I can get a used V drive BBC fairly cheap, whereas the custom something for the 409 will surely cost me...

Thanks for the help.

I think the BBC pan fits but the rail has to be drilled and tapped for it and you need to use the Lamar Walden Billet timing cover. That cover costs more than a new 409 pan.

If it were for a car I'd go 409 all the way...but for a boat the pickup is different and the capacity is 10-12 quarts.

I have fitted a Milodon BBC pan on my current build. The pan rails must be redrilled, a BBC rear cap is required for the pan to seal against, and a crossover ft. cover also. On my engine, all caps are BBC and block is bored to accept standard BBC crank. I fabricated the front cover from a BBC cover and a 409 cover, and most cannot tell the difference. This was a ton of work.
