Just wanted to mention...
a fellow from Santa Ana, California, just contacted me... in need of some help.
He has an original 1960 348 car ( 250 horse ), which he has owned forever:deal .
The heads which he just pulled off, are irrepairable.
He needs a pair of rebuildable "379" castings.
If anybody is in the LA area, and has a set they can sell, please let me know, and I can get you guys hooked up:bow
thanks

Aubrey,
I was under the impression that just about any problem with cast iron heads
could be resolved, with current method's of repair. Guess I'm wrong ?
I met a guy at a swap meet a couple months ago that had ( I think ) some
379's for sale. I could try to contact him (he's about 1 1/2 hour's from me) if
your friend still needs a set of these. Shipping may be cost prohibitive.
Have you still got that single 690 ?
I met another guy recently that was trying to sell me a 583. He claimed it would work just fine with my 690. He was going to call me back, but never did as of yet.
I wasn't all that excited about the deal. I told him I'd rather have a 690. Maybe that's why he didn't return the call with a price.
What do you think would be a reasonable price to pay for a rebuildable, bare,
690 ?

Randy, this fellows heads are cracked up. Not worth repairing.
One of our members in Washington state, has replied... looks like it should work out.
690 ?
583 ?
ABSOLUTELY:cool:
I have single 690 head to trade for a 583.
The 583 must be totally un-modified.
You don't have to pay anything for a rebuildable 690...
just buy that 583, and I'll trade you ! :deal
REALLY need it for my Stocker. :bow

Sorry Aubrey, It's not going to work out, Gut wants the heads mag'd and gauranteed before he'll accept them. I'm not going through the hassle, for the price I was asking. I'm content on letting em sit under the workbench till I need them. So if anyone wants to step up with a set of mag'd 379's that they want to give up....they are still needed.

HHMMM... I'm out of the loop, Tim. :dunno
If they're cracked, you can usually see it anyhow. However, if you've bottomed the price, anything like hot tanking / magnafluxing would have to be over and above.
I just hope you didn't take up too much time with it.
Thank YOU to everybody who responded:bow
