I was flipping through the latest issue (November 2007) of the Goodtimes Gazette and saw this vehicle. Does anyone know any engine info on this vehicle?

I cringed at the sight of anything about it, but.....to each his own

And the doors are eight inches longer than stock. It is a 496 with custom fuel injection. I have a some detailed pictures that Dennis sent me of the engine, but I don't know how to put them on the site. If someone tells me how, I will try. Jeff

You guys really think that's ugly? I see lots of hard work, excellent detail, and a strong sense of style.

Custom is more about what makes you happy, not what the other guy thinks...

Great engine detail. A lot of work involved. :beerbang

Must be down on power though with the air inlets right aft of the radiator sucking in all that hot air.

Really guys...I saw this car this week art the SEMA show and in person it is beautiful. The quality of the paint and body work is truely impressive. It has a full tube chassis and the injection is an Algon converted to electronic fuel injection. Ran 8.50's at Bakersfield and could have done better, but the shut Dennis down because he didn't have an NHRA license and he didn't have a Lenco blanket for the trans.

All you guys who want to "dis" this car and the guy who built it had better have some pretty nice equipment or you're just blowing smoke out a hole in your head. So what if the tops chopped or the interior isn't original. Do you really think Dennis started out with a restoration quality car and cut it all up? For all you know he saved some wreaking yard dog from the crusher...so shut your yap if you don't have anything positive to say.

I attached a couple of pictures here and also at "anyone go to SEMA?

Yeah, I can appreciate the hard work and attention to detail. But sometimes you just need to fire the design team and start over:takethat . The engine is a work of art, maybe a bit overkill, but it is nice to see what one can do with old iron.:clap
There are MANY things on that car I would do differently, mainly put the engine in something else and start over:dunno . Personally - He/she ruined a good thing. That's my two cents worth.:argue:

This is eye candy to me.....

So shut your yap. Thats right! That car only has to please one person, the owner. I bet he likes it. I don't give a sh!t if anyone else but me likes my car. The car looks beautiful!!! Certainly somthing to be proud of. He didn't build the car for YOU he built it for himself! Style is subjective but quality cannot be ignored. That car has quality all over it. I bet it is stunning in person.:beerbang

Someone should tell Boyd Coddington about not cutting up nice cars. He cuts them up all the time and makes them look like this car. What he did to the 59 and the 61 makes me sick. :cry

Not my cup of tea but I'm old school. :)

The great thing about old cars is the individuality! I personally love the old style ('50s-'60s) more than the modern style. It maybe 2007, but I still watch Ozzie and Harriet and Charlie Chan (like in my youth). I don't have anything close to as nice as your buddy's car (see pics). And I can appreciate the all the grief received by cutting up a car. I got plenty of that from old friends when I "ruined" a perfectly good Impala Conv. The '59 is patiently waiting for the future aluminum 409 parts (I have a 476 stroker short block).

39Chevy: your buddy's car is phenomenal! I'd love that engine in my '59. Why don't you get him to join this board?

I am sure the workmanship in this vehicle is superb:coffee: and, there is no doubt that the engine is something to drool over... I will give him credit for saving it from the crusher and I do hope that was the case or maybe he stole a roof from a Buick or Olds...:dunno In any case I think this guy's execution of this vehicle is much more to my likening....:bow

I'm with you, the black one you posted photos of is cool!
In fact it looks like the one I was thinking about buying a few years back.
The only difference would be the wheels, but those can easily be changed.
Do you know if the Black bubbletop had a 502 in it?

TO ALL:
I really do not like the Big dollar pro built custom cars. I can appreciate the workmanship, but the love stops there. I usually hate the car.

And if you can't respect my opinion, because it differs from yours, - too bad.

I totally agree with Bobs409 about Boyd's '59 and '61 (I'm rewatching the episode of AHR about the '59 when Boyd fires Mike off the DVR). Also, I'm not a Ford guy, but I got burned to a cinder when he siced and diced the Model T coupe and T roadster. They were too nice to cut up (did I just say that??).

...Ran 8.50's at Bakersfield and could have done better, but the shut Dennis down because he didn't have an NHRA license and he didn't have a Lenco blanket for the trans...

I'm going to assume that's an 1/8 mile time. An 8.50 is a bit too quick for fully dressed, naturally aspirated, W-engined Pro-Touring car in the 1/4 mile.

I don't really dislike the car, but I think if it still had the drip rails it'd look a lot better.

I must agree with threeimpalas. If the car runs 8.50s in the 1/4 , I would like more information. Even though I am old-school, I do appreciate the workmanship that went into that car. Very nice.

Quickshift409

Threeimpalas, read the post by 39 Chevy. If you run 8.50 in the 1/8 mile you don't need a trans blanket or a NHRA license. That would be a 13.00 second run in the 1/4 mile. Ronnie I agree, we need more information.

Is that the one they built to race at the salt flats for his annoying wife? If so, I was extremely hot myself over that one.

All they used was the main body which they then ended up hacking to hell anyway! :cuss For the little they used, they could have just had the guy that builds aluminum bodies make that part. Why did they need it? Just ridiculous!

This guy thinks these old cars grow on tree's or something. He's hurting this hobby, not helping it. It's not like you can bring a "Boydster" back to original again later, not after they hack it all up.

I really should stop watching that show, it's bad for my blood pressure. :bang

impalamike.com
11-06-2007, 10:45 AM
Thats the one Bob. My father-in-law and me kept saying he should have bought a brand new body from Brookeville Roadster. Marcel DeLay is the guy who makes the custom made bodies with his two sons.

I stopped watching AHR long ago for exactly the same reason. Boydsters or Foose Mobiles as they are called are better done in fiberglass. Save the old iron for the real Hot Rodder

Give "Hard Shine" (on TLC Thursdays) a try. Nothing but real hot rods done in the classic style. I am sure if a 409 Impala rolled into their shop it would remain a 409 Impala not an "Imposter"w/BBC.

Yeh, his new wife is a stuck up snobby bitc... , you missed that one. :D

The way she acted when they hired the hot young chick with the Camaro at the shop. She said she didn't like her so Boyd ended up firing her.

Not sure if that was just for ratings but probably not. I was hoping that salt flat racer would have flipped when she was racing it. :p :D (and actually, she almost did flip it!)

So now the question... would you sell your car to Boyd? :rofl

His ex isn't all that bad, she got dumped for the new one. But she kept her 50% so that's a constant needle in the old boys side:rofl

As far as selling a car to him, I couldn't care less what someone did with a car I sold to them. Once they buy it, it's thiers to do as they please, BUT with that said I probably wouldn't sell a car to him because when he approaches you to buy a car he tells you what price he will give you and you're suppose to be thankful and grateful because BOYD said so. He pulled that on a friend of mine recently and this guy came close to kicking his ***. Told Boyd to get the fxxk out of his car.:rofl :rofl

That's the whole deal...Boyd makes you a very low ball offer and expects you to jump for joy because you're given the opportunity to sell it to BOYD!
And he'll pretty much tell you that to your face to.

I think his words to the owner of the car after he scoffed at his offer was: Do you know who I am?
