Question regarding the red and silver oval Delco-Remy Plate/tag rivoted to the generator. I saved this generator from my first 62 and stored it (said loosely) for decades. The unit was just rebuilt. It was in rough shape. I went to get get the model number from it. and I never noticed before today, however, now that it is installed and looking at it from the driver's side...its upside down. I recall that I had this thing rebuilt a long time ago and probably never noticed then either:dunno However, this shop painted over it. The tag was badly oxidized.

I saw that Show Cars have these plates as a repop. Has anyone ever replaced these? What about the rivots and the numbering etched in it? Is there a creative way to refinish these original tags? I am trying to restore the engine/bay for the 1962.

Any thoughts?

I seem to recall that it is upsidedown because it would normally be installed on the passenger side and if read from that side it would be right side up. It is probably a 268 generator which is the same as Corvette in 62 and would be mounted on the pass side on the Corvette. Ask Tommy, real61ss, if his is upside down.
As far a replacement tags, Corvette Central and I'm sure other resto parts suppliers sell the tags blank or stamped with your numbers on them.

My 61' is mounted on the drivers side and is right side up standing at the drivers fender.
