I changed from the stock three speed to a camaro 5spd and love it! This swap wasn't hard at all. Camaro t-5 has same bolt pattern as original bell housing. Only need to drill out the mounting holes in the transmission to accept the original bolt size. This was easily done with a hand drill. You need to fabricate a new rear tranny mount because the camaro t-5 sits at a strange degree. Meaning the shifter isn't on the top of the tranny when installed in the camaro, instead it's off to one side. When you see the tranny you will understand. Again, not to hard to correct with some angle iron and welding. Shifters for camaros are also bent back at that strange degree to get it into the camaro console. Just get a mustang t-5 shifter and swap it into the camaro base plate. It makes sense if you can see them. Drive shaft will be shortened. Floor will need new hole as the shifter sits further back. Mine is right at the seat, with reverse touching the seat. Also you must use the camaro clutch set as the spine count is different than original. I guess this now sounds like alot but truly it isn't. When I was done I couldn't believe I waited so long to complete the swap. Best of luck, it is well worth the effort.

so i take it the input shaft bearing is the same, use same flywheel and all, also i can get a ford t-5 or an s-10 t-5, that way the shifter is not on the side.

I believe the Ford t-5 has a completely different input shaft in length, diameter so I don't think it works. Maybe someone else will know for sure. S-10 t-5 is geared differently and was built to handle less torque so I was told to aviod. But should bolt up. I used a t-5 from a 1990 V-8 camaro and pilot bearing, flywheel, etc. were all the same.
