I called Tony Shaffer of Day Automotive this morning, just to see how he has been. Hadn't talked with him in a while so I called him to let him know that Donnie, his brother, had 3 pictures of his 348 409 engine collection in Doug Marion's article in this month's Super Chevy. Those of you who came to the convention saw Donnie's 2 trailers of 348 and 409 engines. When Tony told me what he was doing this afternoon........I asked if I could come over!!!!!!! He said sure..... so off I went.

Oh, be still my heart!!!! It's a good thing I remembered to take my blood pressure medicine this morning!!

Tony had Rusty Symmes Pro Nostalgia 409 on the dyno for break-in and testing!!!!:bow :bow :D :D Good grief this "thing" is awesome!!! I saw it run up to 8050RPM without any hesitation!! And it doesn't shake and vibrate like I thought it would. The engine is just so steady running there. This is a huge engine for Tony's dyno....the air box and the exhaust system really aren't big enough for full out results. But he was happy with the numbers. No....it's not my place to mention them here!! But in full race trim.......I would expect 950-1000 HP!!:rofl :rofl

I know it's not really a 409..........but it is a 409!!!! I posted pictures of this engine apart in another thread with Floyd Horton standing beside it. Floyd.......you and Travis ought to come see it now!!!!

If you have something like this.........YOU SHOULD NEVER NEED A PRESCRIPTION FOR VIAGRA!!!!! I'm so excited...........I need to rest now.................

I was just thinking,:scratch
I'll be heading to Florida pretty soon for that 409 shootout,,, maybe I could do Rusty and Tony a BIG FAVOR and deliver that engine.:brow
Yeah,,, I could pick it up on my way down, and drop it off on the way back.:coffee:

And it wouldn't be right to set a nice engine like that on some flimsy engine stand,,, so I guess the best bet would be to bolt it right into my car.:dunno You know,,, just to make sure it doesn't get damaged.:brow

Phil, I've talked to Tony a few times lately(so we could both blow off steam, him more than me!). I'm gonna try to get up that way in a few weeks. I've told a few younger racing friends about this engine and want to take them to see it!

Jim and Travis...................need to hurry as Tony said Rusty would be in town this next week to pick it up!! I'm sure it's off the dyno by now.

I'd love to have it too but I'm too dumb to make it run and it's worth more than my financial statement!!!!:doh :doh :rofl :rofl

Ronnie

You was worried about one Holley on my car being reliable, I guess you wouldn't want to ride in his 62 with two Holleys on the engine. Just imagine the things that could go wrong. :rofl :rofl :rofl

Bill, I dont think reliability is an issue with that engine. I'm sure Rusty is able to tune em gooood. Thanks Jim for posting that, I could look at those pictures for hours. What a car !!!
