Would not recommend Show Cars Headers fit is terrible, lots of heating and hammering just to get to fit. They are now hanging on the wall. I have a set that are awesome and they came from Wilson Headers in 1992 the last set they had. I got the idea at the time form old issues of Super Chevy' project 62 revival had a set and I called. They tuck inside the frame and slipped in from underneath no issue:) . If you could find a set of those original headers they would work well. Good luck with the search:)

I have heard that in the past that wilson is now ballanger and that is what Show cars claims to be selling. I guarntee they are rip off of the wilson. I am attaching some pictures of the headers whenI did the test fit and they are awesome

Gabe, the Doug's headers are great for a moderate low to moderate performance 348, or stroked maybe to 380 cubic inches... but that's about all. 1 5/8" tubing into a 2 1/2" collector, is not enough.
As quik9r said. the old Wilson 1 7/8" header ( it's actually the Belanger design )is the best... but no longer available.
You can always build your own:deal

What about Hooker Super Comp headers? I bought a set for about 350 bucks seven years ago, My contact there left the area so I don't have any current data or pricing, but they sure brought out the beast in my ride.

Thats right, I forgot about trimming the inner fender wheelhouse, although I think I could have got clearance by slightly bending the wheelhouse. Right side only, no trimming required on the left one. and they do sit low, especially the left one, it bottomed out once and collected something else once, two dents, one of these days I will try to eliminate those dents with a stud gun. Sanderson does have some 409 headers, weren't they block huggers? Didn't they have cast iron also?

I saw a car at the Charlotte Goodguys that didn't have the tube on the passenger side go over the frame. Now I don't know if the owner modified it or that's the way it came. see picture below

I was surprised when I saw them too. I took lots of pictures of that car. I remember seeing the hooker medallion on drivers side.

The headers that you see in that picrure are the hooker super comp headers that are modified, generally the one tube goes over the frame and you notch the inner fender. The super comp headers are also a thinner wall guage of metal then a standard street header, I cannot remember if the flange is thicker or thinner. I have looked into this for years, can you believe that know one makes a header for BBC 396-502 for x frame that tucks inside both frame rails. I have attached a picture of a set headers I had built for a 502 in 62. Full length 2 1/8 tube and they can be removed form under neath the car in about 15 min:cool: This car can be heard on you tube search 502 1962 chevrolet.

I own a set of sanderson .My only peeve is the two port in the middle are only approx 3/4 of inch square . There is no way to widen them other than cut out the tube and then modify the flange to accept a larger tube

Hey Ronnie...
The hardtop has a 482 in it. Basically 409 car block with 454 crank rods etc... 690 heads and stock intake. The car weighs 4340 with Dad in it. It has a olds pont. rear end with 4.88 spool. The best it ran was last fall 11.18 @ 119.55. Now we put fiberglass front bumper and hood on it and disc wilwood brakes on the front. But in St. Louis we had problems and leaned out a cylinder and now it's on rebuild agian.
The Elcamino has a 409 truck block with nothing crazy done to it. I talked him into it so we could both run NSS. The best it ran was 11.59 @ 116.52. If anyone would like to see pictures I don't have any to post but if you go to www.nss-monster.com....there is a calandar on there and we are on the month of January both cars side by side on the starting line. Just scoll down on the home page and you will see all the cars on the calander and the pictures are much bigger.
Well back to the shop to rebuild that motor before spring....Happy Holidays to all the 348-409 family's:cheers

Notice the picture of Passenger side, number 2 cylinder goes over the frame rail. Had to trim fender well where tube goes over the frame. Front tires does hit it on tight turns. Drivers side all tubes inside the frame.

This picture shows the header on passenger side. Note #2 tube and how it sticks out. I did see a car at Charlotte Good Guys Car Show where they modified the header to get that tube inside frame rail. See picture below

I have been watching this header thread for a couple days now. I had seen some pictures some where on here that showed the one pipe of the header going out side the frame. I am wondering why that is? Way, way back in the good ole days we installed a lot of headers on 09's and some 427's and they did not extend out side the frame. We used S&S on almost all but there were other manf that made them. I think some one bought everything from the old S&S and is in business. I have seen ads in some street rod magazine. I think Doug's and maybe Headman had inside the frame ones too. The cars we had in 61 used Jardine and they were fender well type.
Any way would some one please tell me why the pipe goes out side the frame?
Thank you

Don what size is your tire and wheel combo? Also if you know or have a good guess at what your backspacing is that would be cool too.
Thanks for the quick post of the header pics.
