Hi guys, I thought some of the aviation buffs might enjoy this.
I just started a new job, working on douglas DC7 fire retardant bombers.Have been installing cylinder and piston assemblies for the last week. The engines are 18 cyl wright 3350,rated at 3350hp! 4 per plane. Its basically the same engine as on the B29. they say there are only about 12 DC7s still flying in the world!
Im having a blast working on the big radials, just havent figured out how to keep one cool in car yet.

BC409,
Just remember....."Jets are for kids, real men fly radials".
Sounds like a fun job. I've changed a few cylinders, carbs and props myself although it's not much fun working outside in the cold.....hope you have a hangar.
DC 7's are a rarity. Clay Lacey raced one in the unlimited class at Reno back in the 70's....didn't win but he made everyone else work for it due to the wake turbulence he stirred up.
Overheating was a big problem for the 3350 in the B-29.....turbos and poor cowling design as I recall. I think they had better luck with the 7.
Don't worry about cooling one in a car. That would be the least of your worries if you could figure out where to mount it. I'd be more concered about the trailer you'll need to carry the fuel and oil.:rofl
I remember some crazy guy at the AHRA nationals in FT Worth back in 61 who had a V-12 Allison in a 34 Ford sedan...couldn't keep a clutch in it.
