I even called them and asked. My belts are Brand New in the box but they are out dated so I cannot use them from my understanding at an NHRA track.

Belts 209.95 minus 20% trade-in equals 167.96 out of pocket. :bang
So I guess I go with rope!:beerbang

Now there's an idear! :rofl

Actualy I called NHRA tech line and asked about the SFI requirments. As long as I stay under 11.49 Nothing SFI in the car has to be dated. If I run over I am out.

They might make an admendment to the rule book for this as well:D

Try to tell them that here at Heartland park. My car has run as fast as 12.10 there. I have a 5 point belt and at 2 1/2 years they were riding my a@@ about the belts. These need replaced or updated. I told them my car wasnt fast enough to even require them. They didnt care. They are installed so they have to follow the rule. They couldnt say anything if I had a 47 year old factory lapbelt. But a 2 1/2 year 5 point?????? I didnt win:dunno

My new 5 point seat belts just arrived by mail order today. My old ones are only two years old but they needed to be replaced. I know that exposure to sunlight weakens them but lets get real. These things are strong enough to pull down a building. I can maybe see the two year replacement period for really fast cars but you'd think you could get at least three years out of them for cars in the ten and eleven second range.

Jim: We have to reject PVC water and sewer pipe that has been stored outside for 2 years because it has supposedly lost "elasticity". Oh good write up in Super Chevy:bow :bow

I sent my belts off to be recertified and got them back with all new belts on my old hardware and it was 20% off new. My belts don't see any sun except at the race track. Wait until just before race season to renew so you can get another year out of them. I got mine last year and that means even though the car won't be out of the garage until this spring I've lost a whole year on cerification. Roy

I'm all for good safe seat belts, after all we don't want to rely on luck, like the guy in this video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sszoT9OGiv4
But you'd think that with todays technology they could make a seat belt that was good for more than just two years.:dunno

By the way, I sprung for a set of belts with the camlock style latch... http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=GFR-7000BK
They seem to be a lot easier to get in and out of than the ones with the regular duck bill style latch.

Guys,
Carl and I talk about this every two years, also. It is a real pain, but what price is true safety? I know Bill Simpson often spoke about all the money people would put into the race car, but would go real cheap on safety. Anybody that wants a better deal on belts, check out M&R products in NJ. they offer top quality belts, and they are a lot less expensive than the others. They also do recert., or they used to. We pay around $70. for a set of belts. They have a website, also.

RCI has a decent deal as well and have recert. Next I have to deal with the fact that I cannot have more that 12" of rubber hose in the fuel line.
Luckily I can get about 20' shipped to me for around 65.00.
