I know your not a fan of Edelbrock, and believe me I would rather support the little guy, but I was thinking. If I am not mistaken I thought I read somewhere that Edelbrock had a ford fe head that was nhra approved as a replcement part. If they did their usual copy of the original, do you think there is any chance of their head getting a nhra approval? Even if they don't perform any better than a stock 690, you could get a good amount of weight off the front end. Just a thought and like I said I could be mistaken.

Thanks for asking, Budget:)
Yes, I suppose that WOULD be possible:scratch
With my relentless traction problem, it would be nice to get 60 pounds off the front end, and add it as ballast, strategically, in the rear:deal
Not many Stockers though. Another member here, Gerry Gostinek, with the black 61 BelAir, has his set up within Stock Emliminator rules. I wish he would advise us of some of the "encounters" he had in the process.
Like most good NHRA / IHRA Stock / Super Stock guys though.... he seems to say nothing about it:dunno
It's not that I don't like Edelbrock.... I DO. It's just that it makes me mad that they came into the game, JUST as Bob is getting his heads perfected.
Also, as I mentioned, I was disappointed in their intake manifold design. Would be nice to do a back to back comparison though.

Aubrey, Are you basing your opinion on the Edelbrock intake manifold from looking at pictures or have you actually examined one in person? I ask because I am not sure the picture that has been released is the actual piece. Am waiting to hear from someone who has actually studied one up close.

The picture of course, Ronnie. And if the picture IS in fact pretty much what the finished part is like, it CAN'T be too much of a departure from the GM part.
If it picks up even 10 horsepower / ft lbs torque over a stock manifold, I'd say it's a good piece.

I'm pretty sure somebody will do a back to back dyno test comparing the new Edelbrock to the factory dual quad. I'm guessing the Edelbrock will be quite a bit better. I have noticed that Edelbrock's dual quads are down on both horsepower and torque when compared to their own Performer RPM single quad manifolds. I'm also guessing Aubrey's new intake will out power the Edelbrock.
These are interesting times for W engines.

Aubrey, I found an old 2005 edelbrock catalog. I was correct. They have two parts listed, #60057 and 60058 one for 390 one for 428. Says nhra acceted for stock and super stock. It's noted that they are not ported or bowl blended. Could be worth looking into. I would think if they are a copy cat head they would have to give an approval for the w also. I know you dealt with them on your pistons so you know what it takes. The weight saving placed correctly as ballist could really help your 60'. Also there could be some interesting possibilities in super stock. The skies the limit there you just have to start with an approved casting. You can rear half those cars too. No more traction problems!!!!!! You would only be limited by time, $$$$$$$$, and enginuity. Only thing is you would have to be able to get it to think it was a mark IV style big block or you couldn't be competitive.
