I have 2 409's out of a boat. Is the crank shaft different between car and boat blocks?

Do you know if one of the motors is reverse rotation?

I think most marine engines are pretty much the same as truck engines, so the cranks should be the same. If the engines came out of a boat with twin engines the one from the right side is probably set up to run backwards. I know for sure the cam is different and possibly the distributor but pretty much everything else should be the same.

Jim: You're correct on the marine conversions. I have an old Crusader 409 conversion but I have an odd-ball "correct" rotation one.:rofl :rofl

I don't know about the cranks...

there are two possibilities, either it was a marine version...I'm told close to a truck motor...or it came out of a car like mine. I'd check the casting #s to make sure which it is.

the casting number is an "814" which is 63 car only correct? but it has the relief cut into the cylinders like a truck would have. Not sure on the rotation of the one i have torn appart

Do the valve covers look cool? I'm putting a car motor in my boat...maybe an arrangement could be made?

814 blocks were also used for truck engines.

the oil pan was aluminum, basically a square box,
and the valve covers were just stamped steel like the original, only with a sticker that said pacemaker 280.

Also, the drive was hooked up off of the Front on the engine, which i couldn't believe.

Wanna get rid of the oil pan?

If it's driven off the snout then it was in a V drive. Circle boat always turn left and running it off the snout makes the motor run as in a car, but spin counter clockwise and makes a left turn easier.

I have stamped valve covers...I was thinking about Mooneyes anyway.

so if it is driven off the front, its rotation is the same as a car? How much is the pan worth to you? (i also have the whole set-up from the boat if interested.) (PM me)

Mine has Crusader 280 on the covers(Crusader Marine Conversion) and is an 814
robert

Does anyone have a Daytona Marine conversion as those were the "tricked" conversions to produce more power??
