This is a great example of why I no longer live in South Texas. My brother-in-law sent this pic of a rattler recently taken on the King Ranch near my home town. With all the rains there's plenty of food for them and I would expect a bumper crop this year. We have them here too but less likely to run into one sitting in my air conditioned house.:eek:

Lots of good eating on that one.

Have to prepare them when they are fresh, frozen just doesn't taste as good.
Butter, olive oil, a little sage.....

Taste like chicken !!??

Actually, more like frog leg. :rofl

Cooked right it's actually better than chicken.

The big snakes let you get a decent amount of meat without having to deal with a million fish-like bones.

When I had some in Annapolis many years ago I noticed they were covered in a thick sauce.

I suppose it covers the taste of crab guts and feces!

Didn't occur to me at the time, but at least we skin and clean the snakes. :rofl

You caught on quick as to the "old Bay seasoning" That is what the coating was which is applied after they are steamed. I use old beer in the steaming process for added "flavor" Then plenty of cold Bud's to wash it all down:rofl

Actually Richard, softshells are cleaned. When they are in that state it's very easy to lift the points of the shell and get the "crab guts and feces!" out. Of course, I only speak for the Eastern shore residents, and that's not to say all "Western Shore residents" clean 'em.

:rofl:rofl

BTW, Old Bay is good on almost anything. :deal

Love that bacon. Bacon is sooooo good, they wrap it around steak to make it better.

Thanks for the thought Robert. I actually don't care for crab much anymore-got burned out on it when we were in Alaska. We had a spare freezer that we weren't using so I let some friends store their crab, halibut steaks, and caribou steaks in it on condition that we could help ourselves. I actually got kinda sick of crab..... Halibut and caribou though are yummy. Just ask Phil.:D

We had fresh Alaskan King Crab for New Years while in Alaska this winter. Fresh off the Time Bandit from the Deadiest Catch TV show. The parents own the Time Bandit, and the sons do the fishing, have the fish market in Homer. There isn't anything like FRESH crab legs!!! Just ask Candy!!!!

As far as the East Coast goes, I have a customer who lives in Maine and Richard is a lobster fisherman. So guess...............who do you think I call for Lobster???? They only $1.50 a pund off the boat at the dock last I heard.l The lobster is cheap...the UPS 2nd Day gets you!!!!
