Has anyone switched to the MSD distributor running and old Sun tach? I recently got my new engine running [ and thanks to those with cam advice, Aubrey!!] and it runs awesome even better than expected! But I just now installed the ready to run msd dist. and my vintage tach is very unhappy with it. Ive always run auto meter stuff in my other race cars with great results, but this car is all period looking. The tach is about a 66 year sun 8 grand with no sender. Has anyone run into this or know what to do? The tach works its just really all over the place as far as accuracy.

I am running an MSD 6A and an original 62 Tach/Sending unit. The sending unit has been converted by Williamson's electronics though. Works flawlessly.

Are you on the tach plug in spot on the MSD box, if so, try the connnecting to the coil instead. Or vise versa. MSD also sells a tach convertor.

No box I take it. Missed the ready to run part. Tach should work connected to the distributor side of coil.

saw the car over by Borchardts sunday...sounded real good when you were turning around on 27th street to go park. Wish I woulda had more time to run over and check it out...I saw it last year too at Nagel's dyno shootout.

I wish you would have had time also, Ive been thinking sooner or later I would run into you since we are in the same area.
As far as my tach, I have a 6al for the car but dont have it in yet. The tach wire is hooked up the same as it was with the old engine. Right to the neg coil post. Im not sure if its cause of the mag pick up or what. Ive heard there is a place in ill that rebuilds these tachs maybe I should ask someone like that.
