I just purchased a 1963 Impala 340/409 4 speed. The carb needs to be replaced, not working properly. I am not too concerned with originality, just want something that will run good & look okay. I am in Salt Lake City, UT with high altitude (5000 ft.) Any suggestions on a good replacement would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hello,
I'm using two carter AFB 3720SB. The rear AFB is a 3720SB E5 there from a 65 vette I've been told by other members. Edelbrock 500CFM should work fine new out of the box, I'm sure you'll get more infomation from the site.
Good Luck and happy motoring:)

The 3720 was ( is ) a great carb. Difficult to find a 40+ year old core that is usable. I like Ted's suggestion. The 500 Edelbrock would be perfect for the 340 hp engine, especially with the cost of fuel today.

Thanks for the information. Also I am going to replace the oil pressure switch when I install a new gauge but I can't find the old one on the block. Any idea where it is supposed to be? There is a plug on the drivers side of the block in front of the oil filter. Is that where it is supposed to be? Thanks.

It's by the oil filter.

Yep, the plug right above or forward of the oil filter.
