I just got word back from my machine shop doing the work on my '60 348. He said that the crank checked out with "good" main bearing surfaces but the rod bearings will need to be .030 under. He recommended that we go ahead and cut the mains .010 to be sure that everything is trued up when the crank leaves. He said he was surprised that the rod bearings needed to be so far undersized when the mains were good. I was wondering if anyone has seen this before and if there might be an oil supply issue with this motor where the oil flows to the rod bearings. I also didn't notice any heavy scoring on the crank at all when I took it in to him. :scratch
I will surely check everything with plastigage when I'm into assembly, but I have used this guy several times and can't see how he would have made a mistake here.
Normal? :dunno
