Thanks Mike! This place is PACKED with breath-taking cars! I'll post some more pictures as soon as I get a better wireless connection. The connection I have now is just a tad better than using a string and a couple of cans. The race is tomorrow at Beaver Springs. I have a magazine photo shoot first thing in the morning, then it's all down to business with a match-race between me and Jack Todd's 1961 Ford Starliner. It is being billed as the "Mountain Motor Nostalgia A/FX Match Race". Jack's Ford is powered by a 714" Ford Hemi, and my 707' Donavan. Should be a fun time!

Hey Guys, just back got from the York US 30 Dragway Meet.Been there for three days ,loving the good life.Great turnout in doors and also outdoors. The show was outstanding, many, many beautiful cars, race cars, and muscle cars.Hooked up with Mike Casella,Dick Mackenzie,Alen George,Arnie Beswick, and others. This years show had more 348/409 "W" blocks inside and outside than I've ever seen here before.Heard numerous people talking as they walked away from looking at my car that they believe the 409 "thing" is really coming back strong.Don't we all know that!!!!I 'd say about 10,000 spectators went threw the building through out the day,on Friday probably about 3000 enjoyed the show. Anyway,I took a few pictures, hope you all enjoy!! By the way,I know there's a couple of guys that like Pontiac as well,I included pictures of a few some Super Duty cars.I really like these big body speedsters,so check them out as well. John

Tic,I didn't mean to Hi-Jack your thread, but I thought it would be appropriate to keep all the pictures from the show nestled together under your topic.Mike did mention to me on Friday he had set up a few pictures on his websight and you were going to post them for him.His car and my car were almost next to each other(about 20 feet apart),so we all hung out a bit.It was really good to get some of the guys from the East Coast together. The jars were for people's choice "Best Of Show".All money raised go to the York County SPCA,a great cause.Only thing is,most people to not vote(by putting money in jar, most money wins "Best of Show"),the owners of cars who are trophy hounds usually put sometimes 100's of dollars to win the award. The last few years have all the same winners. The York US 30 Group does give their own awards out,and they are right on track with that.Judging is extremely fair, people who get those awards deserve it big time.!!!! This is one of the better shows in the country, with, all major cars, major owners.Literally all the better AFX Cars,Super Stockers, some Funny Cars,All the major Gassers,Modified productions,Altered, and all the major Stockers from the late 50's to early 70's era.By coming in this building and this show, you would literally learn the history of Drag Racing,NHRA,AHRA,IHRA,and history of the most important drag strips, drag racers, and cars of our time past. Its like going back and living history all over when you hear the stories directly from the people who made the history of drag racing.Well worth the drive even if your 8-10 hours away.I was honored to have been asked to display my car along with Mike inside the building ,and be a participant, and able to attend the show inside and outside the building.I would do it again in a heartbeat!!! WOW!! What a weekend!! I was almost speachless at all the early iron at this show. We got there before they opened the doors to let cars the cars inside, so we were able to see most of what came in. Simply incredible. We just this minute got back from the trip, so as soon as I can put things in order, I'll be back.
Just a quick note on the race. It rained before I got a chance to make a pass, so all I got to do was sit and look pretty before loading up and heading home. :)

Tic,So you figured it out I'm a lover of Pontiacs as well.Next to Big Chevies,Pontiac have a special place in my heart.I got turned on to them back in 1958.My uncle had a fuel injected 58' Bonneville. That was one screaming car back in the day.I love those 1960-1965 Catalina's and Ventura's,and 2 plus 2's,especially the ones with 2x4's and 3x2's with 389's and 421's,but I really love if they have a 4 speed. As a matter fact, here's a couple of pictures that were sent to me from a friend, from the York Show this weekend..I'm talking here with Arnie"The Farmer" Beswick(Mr.Pontiac).The second pictures shows him signing one of my old Eastern Drag News Magazines, that I've had since my racing days back in 1965.He was signing an ad for Cecil County Drag Strip in Rising Sun,Md. where on Saturday July 24th,1965 he was grudge racing The "Ramchargers" (their 65' Dodge Altered Wheel Base),and Sunday July 25,1965(Cecil County) he was grudge racing "The Cotton Picker",1965 rear engine Dart Station Wagon. As soon as he saw that ad,he laughed and told of the races. He was kind enough also to sign a pull out ad for Capitol Raceway in Crofton,Md.where on July 31st,1965 he grudged raced Dick Landy World's Fastest Dodge Hemi Charger. He did manage to tell us about that, and how he won all 3 of these events. His partner Dean, came over around dinner time, sat with us at my car and spent an hour just talking about drag racing in the 1960-1970's. Thanks for the pictures, that white 58 with the red interior brought back memories of my own 58 (409/425 4spd) from '69, I had traded it in for a, you dont wanna know. A week ago I'm at the gas station with the 58 I have now and a guy walks over and asks if he can look at it. As hes looking he says how he had a 58 back in '69 but his was white with a red interior. I said "really, had a 409 4speed did it?" This got a puzzled look from him, he said yes, but he also had a 440 GTX and wanted to race them against each other cuz he thought the 58 was faster, but he had only driven it a total of about a hundred miles cuz every time he got on it he knocked out the rear end. AH yes, 409/425 4spd not mix with 3;08 open rear. Hey after spending sooooo much money rebuilding the 409 (the $150 I paid for it with the 4 spd and the $150 it cost to rebuild it, which included the NEW $25 crankshaft) I never had the cash for the rear end, but had gotten well versed on replacing spider gears. Asked what he paid for it. He said $800 which was what they had given me for trade on the ,,,,,,,,,you really don't wanna know. I asked what he done with the car. He told me who he sold it to and low and behold the same guy that had ended up with my 58 convertible 5 years earler, who I had tried to buy back from him and he slammed the door in my face. I've never seen either car since and just wonder if he has them both sitting in shed somewhere:mad:. I gotta try to talk to him again. Don't know why he's so arrogant, we had been friends before.:dunno
Hey Paintjohn next time you see Arnie the Farmer ask him about the road where he used to test drive those 160mph Pontiacs in Morrison, IL........and pull the chute to slow down :nono1::rofl

It was great meeting people from this site , and many others.
When the show ended Sat. night..Mike Strickler ( Dave's son), drove Larry Brinkley's ( the '62 Old Reliable ) , out of the building...it put a lump in many throats and a tear in Susan's eyes.
This show is incredible..The REAL Deal !

Cheap 1 ,Thanks for the compliment on the paint!!! I bought the car new, Polamar Red was the color. When I restored the car in 2004 I painted it Polamar Red again, and this time it just looked to "1964-ish".I wanted the car to remain stock ,but yet I wanted the paint to jump out at ya a little bit as well.I paint cars for a living, and I was very familiar with Garnet Red(1986-1997 Pontiac,Oldsmobile, and Buick Color). The color blends extremely well, has some nice metallic flake in it(the original paint does not),but is extremely close in color to the original Polarmar Red paint.I get alot of compliments on the color, kind of looks like a candy apple red in the sun.If your interested, the GM number is #72U,the WA # is WA8979.. I'd love to be able to just pack up and go hit as many tracks as I could, but these days it's too tough to do. And on the bright side, one never knows what tomorrow will bring.
