How many 409 owners use the stock (points) dist, im sure the up-grade is much better, but what you think about running the orginal dist ?? pro's / con's ??

I am running the original 948 points distributor and it works fine but had another 948 converted to MSD and will be using it. It all depends on how much you drive your car. I drive my cars and the low grade gas that we have to use makes the upgrade a better system. JM2 cents

Stock with pertronics, works excellent. Had it in my 283 since 2002, then moved the pertronics to the 409 dist..

I would say the biggest problem would be in finding a quality set of points !!
Most of the junk they sell nowadays is just that,, junk !!
I would look high and low and find some NOS Neifoff point sets and if you do find them buy as many as you can.

Back in the early 70's I changed plugs, points, and condensors on my 71 Corvette everytime I changed oil which was 3000 miles. I saved everything and still have it. I don't think I'll need to buy any points for the rest of my life.:D

Are these the high performance 427 Corvette points?
Rumor has it that those are the points to buy due to better spring tension.

Is the 948 a dual point?
What set of points would you use for an original dual point distributor?

same points, just use two of them. chevy gave up on the 919 dual point dist. and went with the 006 single point dist late in the 1962 production run and the 023 dist. from 63 64 and 65. the cam lobes were ground differently on these single point dist. as compared to the earlier type 948 dist. this cam change allowed the points to dwell longer to build up more energy and worked more like a dual point dist. chevy continued this on their hipo dist. up to around 1974. then came the HEI.
