Does anyone know what kind of capacity a 348 radiator needs to be? looking at getting one for my 40 ford, so need to know the size to have it made to. Also, will a smallblck Chevy flywheel and clutch work on a W motor? I ask as I'm thinking of hooking my 348 to my stock ford 3 speed transmission with a 50's adapter kit for a smallblock and a Hurst front mount. I can sell the Flattie for more that the price of the parts to fit the 348, but the adapter kit will be for SBC flywheel. I know I will have to be carefull with my right foot, but the 348's gotta be so much better than the Flattie. Any info appreciated.

Hey Neil, All I can say is that my 348 takes just about five gallons of fluid with a four core radiator. I think that the small block bell housing will work. I would go with a 11 inch and a 168 tooth flywheel and then you will be set for the future when you make changes. You might be able to find a bell housing with a slave unit attached which might save you some time hooking up the linkage. I have one on my 348 and it works slick.
I have some Chassis Engineering pieces leftover which are new and they fit the 40 Fords. Email me if you are interested and you need some stuff. Hope you are having a great summer. Walt:)

Small block bell housing willl not work. The bell housing will not accept a 11 " flywheel. You must use a 168 teeth flywheel. Also the small block flywheel will not allow the starter to bolt to the motor.I suggest using the 621 bell housing from GM. John

The old cast iron bell housings fit, the kind that the starter bolts to- they are 168 tooth. My 59 Chevy had a 283 powerglide, I converted to a 4 speed, found a 58 chev flywheel and bell housing, 59 clutch stuff, it all bolted to the 63 409 no problem. I believe the 348 and 409 are the same, and the same as any small block or big block that takes a 168 tooth flywheel? Same goes for the clutch stuff, just get a fork that matches the linkage and bellhousing you are using.
