I asked this question on Chevytalk and got all kinds of suggestions how to stop it but no answers what causes it. :cuss This is pertaining to the X frame cars with coil springs and stock suspension. If anyone has a clear cut way to stop it let me know cause I got a ton of it.

Fat,,,Make sure you have both upper arms. Add poly bushings and a good shock adsorber. Might check your pinion angle. Other then that I will sell you my ladder bars :D ,,,,,,,dq
BTW,,,you should always ask here first

Well.... firstly.... Fat...... as DQ said....
Always ask here first:p !
My opinion ( whatever THAT'S worth )
How I see it, in order of the strongest contributing factor:
"Soft" / weak shocks... not proper control for spring rate.
Ride height higher than stock. This causes ALL KINDS of issues. Shifts the housing off to the left side, and because of the angles of the lower control arms, this will move the left side forward, and the ride side back... making the rear wheels direct the rear of the car into the ditch
Sticky tires / with low speed spinning. They grab, and let go.
"Bouncy" rubber control arm bushings.
Incorrect pinion angle.
Uneven tire pressures and/or diameter.

My 58 had bad wheel hop and it is a different rear setup than 59 thru 64 but I bought air bags and put 45 lbs. in the right side and 15 lbs in left side and my problems went away. I would really like some quality shocks but I can't seem to come across any that will fit my car. My shocks are new but they from Classic and are OEM. Roy

Well, I have the lower and one upper control arm boxed and have polyurathane bushings in all three. I will be adding the 2nd upper control arm soon. Stock springs in the rear with Delco plasticell shocks. They are supposed to be high performance ,heavy duty shocks?? The car sits a little higher in the rear for some reason, maybe this is how it set stock? Tires are Dayton Daytonas 255/60R15s seem to be damn good tires. When I ran the 348 at the strip I was pulling 2.00 60' times and was not turning the tire out of the hole at all. I haven't checked the pinnion angle yet but I did notice that at high speeds the drive train had a vibration. This started around 90- 100 mph I think. Where should I set my pinnion angle??????:cheers
dq409 - Didnt you run the 1/4 on friday? Anything you want to share?
