GM dumped them for the same reasons Ford dumped the similarly designed MEL block engines. Too many valve train issues. Run great if you don't mind fiddling with them all the time because they are as touchy as an old maid school teacher. No question the design netted huge amounts of horsepower and torque for the displacement, but reliability has always been an issue in production engines going to the public. The public takes a dim view of anything that has to be in the shop for more than oil changes. Great racing engine but was not worth a flip for the family car.
