Well David, at least now we know why it's been so difficult to find an early 60's Chevy convertible:doh

Strange though... that 76 Corvette sticks out like a sore thumb;)

Just curious I don't see a 65 convertible listed. One of those with a stroker motor would sure look good in my yard.

That's for sure Robert. John can find stuff on Craig's list like no one else. He's sent me a bunch of potentials for cars I'm interested in.

not a big fan of 65 , or 66 , or 67 or 68 or 69 and newer and newer , never really got into those since a buddy of mine has a yard about 10 miles from me with 65 and up gm muscle cars , i just stop at 64 on the impalas cause thats one of my favoritte years , and of coarse 58 being the first
allthough i have owned 2 1965s for a very very short time , as in 30 min drive on the back of the roll back to sell to my buddy haha
at one time he had 2 yards , and now just down to the one , some may have heard of his place its called
sundell auto speacilities he advertises as 62 to present gm muscle cars but i get the 62,63,and 64 fullsize from him

David, you've got quite a "gaggle" of my favorite years there! I have to admit, if I lived on 50 acres had a tow truck and no wife, that's what my "yard" would look like!
You got quite a few fine "shiny cars" (what I call finished cars that drive) and even more donors :) :) :).

My collection is much smaller and more focused on 1961 and 1962 (with a peppering of a few others). Here is what I think I have (do not tell my wife, she isn't aware of some of these yet):

Current GM drivers (shiny cars):

1962 Impala SS dual quad 409 stroker w/four speed and posi (engine is a clone, but it's a real SS car)
1962 Belair two door sedan dual quad 409 w/Turbo 350 (also a clone)
1963 Corvette coupe 327/340 horse four speed

Cars currently under body-off restoration:

1961 Belair sport coupe 348 three-on-the-tree
1961 Pontiac Bonneville 428 stroker

Cars with restoration begun but halted due to interest in other projects, to be continued in the coming years:

1962 Belair sport coupe (to be cloned as a dual quad 409 four speed, have drive train)
1966 Pontiac Catalina convertible 389 automatic

Cars purchased to provide valuable parts to above vehicles:

1962 Belair four door sedan
1962 Belair four door sedan
1961 Impala 348 four speed
1961 Impala 283 PG
1961 Belair four door

Cars used to haul important parts around:

1971 Dodge PU Camper Special 318 automatic

Weird stuff just laying around needing major restoration:

1978 Corvette Silver Anniversary L82 automatic
1988 Corvette ZR-1 parts saved from crusher

I think that might be all of them, I might have missed one or two :).

Cheers!

I have had literally hundreds of cars, from the truly odd Dyna-Panhard to the 'kick myself for not finding a way to complete the deal after the deposit' Ferrari 330 GT.

Prior to a Kalifornia flood I had eighteen classics at the same time, after the flood I foolishly sold them all, they just were not fun anymore, too much work to do them over. The one that folk here might want the most, 64 GTO, 3-2's and PG.:cry

My Ferrari P4 replica was a magazine cover and center spread car, did 13.05 in the 1/4 with a 215" Buick engine, about 160 MPH in fifth on an open road.
No, the engine was not stock! :rofl

I've had to tone it down quite a bit of late, but here's a more complete list of the current stable.

'59 El Camino, 380" blown or injected "W" power project!
'78 El Camino, 350/350 daily driver, to get a GN rear, new paint and F.I.
'65 Marcos 1600 GT, Alfa 2.0, 5 speed. 1400 lb Pocket supercar project.
1967 Jaguar 420, original 4.2 Hemi six, disc brakes, wire wheels.
'69 Land Rover 88" Doing the second full restoration, has about 500,000 miles.
1954 Willy's 4x4 Pick up, 350 or 454, 4 speed, one ton axles, widened fenders.
'74 Land Rover 88", putting it back together after rolling it.
70 Rang Rover "Classic" Daily driver.
1970 "Hurst" edition Jeepster Commando.
1977 Dodge Ram Van, one ton extended body, parts chaser.
'70 Rokon RT-340, Nearly completed.
69? BSA 250 for restoration.
'93 Skidoo Formula MX-Z, OOPS, note to self, DO NOT HIT ROCKS, under repair.
'68 and '70 Skidoo "Alpine" twin track sleds.
Not sure I should include the 71 GTO Convertible since I have technically sold it, just have to get the title sorted out so it can go.
Also have a '74 Triumph Spitfire and '70 Triumph GT-6+, but they are up for sale.

I'm not including parts cars.
The eventual goal is to have only eight or nine finished vehicles, the '59 El Camino and the Marcos 1600 GT are mine forever! :deal

Let me see if I get this right David.................you're a newbie here and you want to start something like..............let me see...........ah.............I'll show you mine if you show me yours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did I read this right?????????
i may not post often here , if thats what your calling a newbie , i joined in 06 , and i thought it would be neat to see what OTHER CLASSIC VEHICLES OR TOYS other members had , hence main reason for this topic is due to i not only have over 80 fullsize chevys from 58-64 , i also have all the others in my collection

its not a show off party , cause if that was the case i would have listed EVERY vehicle i had in posession at this time , but if i did that it would take a lot more room than it did the first post of this topic , seeing as i have over 300 cars ,total its kinda hard keeping up with all of them ,
but if you want i can start ,
from 1929 - 1967 there is 140+
tow trucks = 3 , 2 roll backs and 1 wrecker
late model vehicles 1980-2004 140+
fiat allis articulating loader to move the cars that dont run
bobcat , loaders , backhoe , tractors ,dump truck , ditch witch ,kawasaki mule , golf cart , 4 wheelers x3 , dirtbikes , you name it i got it
i was mainly refering to CLASSIC CARS AND VINTAGE TOYS ( OLD HARLEYS , INDIANS ETC) when i started this topic
not trying to be a prick or show off , i was just wondering what everyone else had hidden in their NON "W" MOTOR COLLECTION , but if it hurt your feelings :takethat cause a so called newbie posted a topic about it then thats more than likely the reason for me being a newbie and not posting in here due to ignorant post like yours , this forum is not a pissing contest its a place for gathering info and socializing:cheers , excuse me if i didnt want to join in on the pissing contest years ago when i signed up :stooges
Yes, you definitely win! :cheers I couldn't keep up with that many keys! :rofl :rofl

David where are you located in NC?

Don

as for the keys we just leave them in each car , in a hidden place of coarse , im in a town called lawndale , just north of shelby ,and 45 miles west of charlotte

now this is what i was talking about , alot of people in here have very ,very nice collections and not all of them a "W" motor cars , cool guys keep them coming

I thought this was a pretty interesting post, not a bragging contest, but a good sharing of information. Some don't want others to know what they have (I understand that) and others are proud of their passions and willing to tell others and look forward to reading what we collectively have.

I recall when we did this some time back, but were focusing on our collections of "W" engines and engine parts. That was fun also!

I for one am impressed by the sharing of information that goes on, whether it is personal or for pleasure or for social reasons. It's a hobby to me, not a business, but a fun thing. To some it means other things. That works for me as well :).

So let's continue, for those of you who still have some things to list, and let's have fun, eh?

Cheers!

agreed , actually this topic can probally help others out in their quest for parts or info , cause if they see another member has for example a 1941 buick , and needed info on one they were building or had problems with theirs they could see if anyone else has one and ask for help or ideas , or even parts , that was the main reason for this and to see what other odd classics people had hidding in their buildings :)

You're right, the snow finally melted. But it will be back soon.

BTW, I was at a show Sunday with my biscayne. A guy came by and mentioned that he used to drive a 63 Z-11 for Burt Chevrolet at the strip in Castle Rock, CO. He got away before I could get the info. I'm trying to track him down.

Last night, I was working on my deuce frame, and a couple of old racers came by. I heard a story about an old street rod in Denver, that has a 409 with a big and rare dual quad tunnel ram on it. It supposedly came from a 61 that was drag raced and sponsored from Greiner (sp) Chevrolet in Denver. The motor was experimental and was not supposed to get away, but it did. Now I'm after that.

I must say, there are some impressive collections out there! Mine is a bit smaller, but it provides me with more than enough opportunity to escape to the garage... The current colection is:

59 Corvette (owned for 24 years, a faithful driver)
57 Bel Air 2-door Hardtop (the eternal project, currently 100% in pieces)
62 Impala 454 (Almost ready to fire up)
70 Honda Trail 70 (Just cool)
04 VW Jetta GLI (215HP Turbo, 6-speed manual = Fun + 32 MPG)

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I can't find enough time to work on the cars I have. How do you keep from getting frustrated with so many unfinished projects??

boxerdog
09-11-2008, 11:17 AM
I think that's a great question...I don't have nearly the amount of iron that some of these folks do, fortunately I don't have the space! But even so, I seem to be always behind on project work and maintenance, to the point that I consider thinning down the "herd" and taking better care of fewer vehicles.

I am thinking that the house, wife and other hobbies might also be contributing to this condition, not to mention work.

Please advise.

I 'm amazed at the number of cars some of you have, I have to agree with Boxerdog, I only have five collector cars but I have a problem maintaining those five in the condition that I want them

I drove the '62 Corvette several hundred miles over the Labor Day weekend so it's been up on jack stands being cleaned ever since .
I'm heading to an AACA National show in Tn next week, taking the blue 61SS, it's fresh out of the box and I still spend a week getting it, the truck and the trailer ready to go. I don't know how you guys with all the cars do it.....Just ain't enough hours in the day.

Tommy (and others) asks: "I don't know how you guys with all the cars do it.....Just ain't enough hours in the day."

We probably don't have them detailed to the level that some of you have your cars prepared. I create and then use mostly "driver" type cars. Those are a lot easier to maintain than a "show car". I've got a range from "shiny cars" to "daily drivers" to "under restoration" vehicles. I spend maybe 3-4-5 hours a day in the garage. Kids are out of college now, just me and the wife. Plus I don't sleep much :). Often up at 4:00 AM, bedtime is around midnight. I work a lot from home, have an office 1 mile away, so I don't spend hardly any time commuting. Plus I am at the tail end of a long career, so not only am I "efficient" with my "day job", but I operate almost totally without supervision. They leave me alone because I generate a boatload of $$$ with external grants and projects, and win awards for my teaching efforts. I do have a "second job", which takes more time than my "day job".

Hobbies are used to fill the gaps :) :) :). I do all my own home repairs, do some new construction, and undertake body off projects as soon as I finish the current one :).

And I'm a bit obsessive when involved in a project, but I make no deadline. I just like to work. And I don't watch much TV. But I am online nearly 15 hours a day, just not continuously :).

Let's get back to those cars, I'm enjoying it!

TomK
