Does anyone know what parts if any will intercange between early 64/5 1/2 ton truck style 12 bolt and later 69 70 camaro chevelle 12 bolt. prefferebly posi unit and or gears. i,m just toying with the idea of running early style with truck arms under my 55.
Keeping with pre 65 concept ,and as many stock style chevy parts as possible. I have to narrow the rear any way so I can use the wheel tire combination I want. Any one played with these before?
Thanks 09 pwr.

better re-think this one, trucks use an eaton 12 bolt. car 12 bolt stuff will not inter change. the few things that do, are of no use for what you want to do. stuff is avail for the truck rears. but by the time you go there, you're in deep in the pockets. also, you'de have to graft in the control arm crossmember and 2 piece driveshaft from the donor truck. what fun.
get a camaro 12 bolt and modify it to fit your leaf springs.

Why all the trouble for a 12 bolt when you can do this? :
:deal
Wish this picture was better
62 Chev housing narrowed 7 1/2 inches.... 28 X 12 slicks
Runs behind a dyno'd 700 HP BBC with a stick:eek:

Bob; you missed the point I was after pre 65, no camaro 10 or 12 bolt housings,as for 2 peice drive shaft. Why? winston cup cars have used this system for years .only 1 peice shaft, shock reloction mount can inorporate a panhard bracket ,so thats minor problem.as the truck housing has mounting ear cast not welded. Aubry:Nice peice but I dont want the stock housing or 9 inch f--d look.I also dont want to use leaf springs stock or relocated,That would be like using a small block.

period correct would require a 57 olds rear with ladder bars all the way to the trans mount. Cool, eh?

Aubrey,

That must be a fun ride! Does that '62 rear really hold up to that 700 hp?!! IF so, maybe I don't need to replace the one in my Impala. I can't believe the casting can take that much abuse! They sure dont look that stout. I've blown four 9" thirdmembers in my jeep with a non dynoed, but approximately 500 hp sbc and m-21. I kept shooting the pinion out the front of the case before buying a Strange. I think the 9" has a lower pinion, and I know F**d is a bad word around here, but I'm surprised there is that much difference.

Can you get a soft gear set for them?

Neil, as my daughter said.... It's like riding an an amusement park !

Tire dimeter... ot more specifically, "Excess" tire diameter. Anything more than 28/29 inches, and you're starting to put some serious stress on the gears.

There're internal upgrades in the rear too... IE, steel bearing cap girdles, ect. The housins is webbed top and back. Axles are very exotic.
