Here's a link to all the "W" block casting number info you'll need:

The 656 casting was used for car & truck blocks. The 333 heads were truck heads. Most likely you have a 409 truck engine. ;)

I recall the "656" casting to be a later (1964-5) truck 348 block, with plenty of meat to take an overbore and refit with larger pistons. These were cast in the waning years of the legendary "W" and are a good place to start for a new rebuild. You can do wonders with those heads and that block using newer metallurgies (valves, pistons, etc.).
Good luck!

Tom, the 656 block was a 1965 409 block. I think you might be confusing it with the 655 block which was the last 348 casting if I remember right.:scratch

I stand corrected :). Was off by one digit, the "656" is the 1965 block. If the 333 heads were original to the block, it should have the "eyebrows" of a truck block from 1965.
Best,
TomK
