What does he mean by "the tire mounts only from the backside of the wheel"? and is a 40 year old bias ply worth $100?http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34209&item=2448982262

the dish or center of the wheel is longer than normal which means the easiest way to dismount the tire is not to stretch the tire over the dish but pull it off of the backside. I hope i explained this clearly. :)

Hey Bungy, 57-64? (always thought 57-62, but I guess possibly up to 64, somebody correct me if Im wrong) 14" wheels were a "reversed" wheel. The outer part of the wheel is deeper, the tire wont stretch enough to slide on over the front so the wheel must be flipped upside down and the tire slipped on from the back. I have mounted/demounted tires on many of these wheels, it only took one to learn quickly! I just picked up a 59 Biscayne with 2, 14x5-1/2 stationwagon wheels, would love to get some of the '61 up 14x6 s/w wheels. Dont know what that tire is worth but ive seen the wheels bare for $25 (probly should buy some, but have no reason to)

It seems MRHP is quicker than me! :D

Up through 1963, guys. Chevrolet and Canadian Pontiac used wheels that must have the tire mounted from the back ( brake drum ) side. This is because the "hollow" is located on the back or "inside" only. The outside flange is flat, so you can't get the tire past it. I have a picture of these wheels together... I'll see if I can find it.

Hey CPG, thanks for verifying the '63 cutoff year, was always curious when they switched.

Hey DQ....do ya' think there'd still be '62 air in that '409' wheel and tire?
We could buy it and charge people to breath it at the convention.
It'll go well with the bag of dougnut holes I bought the other day and the bucket of prop wash I got from the airport.

Darn it BJ, while you were at the airport you should have gotten a 100 yard reel of flight line, to line the cars up at the convention. Next time out there, ask them for it. They should be more than happy to give it to you for free!
