Fellow X-frame and "W" engine enthusiasts:
Some of you might recall my July rantings on trying to construct a 40' by 60' "detached garage" on my 5 acres in the beautiful city of Columbia, Missouri. I got the permit in July 2003 and began levelling the lot, spending about !@#$#$%^%^%^&%^& in doing so.
Then I caught wind of a problem with the City regarding the issuance of the permit, thus stopping the project. :(
So I began a full scale development plan for the tract of ground, requesting a rezoning of the property and asking to build a private driveway to the development. This was about 6 weeks ago. Remember those words "private driveway"...
Tonight I received an OK from City Council to move forward with that plan (it passed 7-0). This involves constructing about one-eighth of a mile of private road.
When the City Sheriff was asked by one of the Council members about jurisdiction over that road bed (which would be build, owned and maintained by me) he replied "While we can provide and protect that area should a crime be commmitted, we have no vehicular jurisdiction over traffic on that road and cannot issue warrants nor make arrests."
Hmmmm.... KC get together is in September. It's December. Should get the green light to drop the bull dozer blades within 3-4 months (it's still a bureaucracy). Weather permitting we can easily grade the road and lay a hard surface on by Summer 2004. "No vehicular jurisdiction" means they can't issue you a citation for excessive driving habits, right? :)
So I'm on the way to the Convention for some of you guys, only 2 hours from KC, and if all things go right I should have a 700 foot smooth untravelled hard surface in the city limits that we can't get arrested at, and it's just 3 miles from my house. Sound like a good place to unload your trailored vehicle and test it before the Big KC event? OK, maybe you've slipped some 3.08s in the rear and drove it there. Wouldn't you want a place to change those gears and maybe test the new set?
I'll try to see this through and see if we can have some fun on the way to the Big Event :)
I figure I will have my SS ready in the next 3-4 months then I can tackle this little "management problem" and create some fun opportunities for some of you. Wish me luck :)
Cheers,
TomK
