Back when I was in high school I worked at a Richfield service station after school and on weekends. After we changed oil and greased the car we put a sticker on the door jamb. I was wondering if there are new ones or a supply of old ones that are available? :) Roy

It's a long shot but you could try ebay. Ya never know what will turn up there.

I am in the auto repair business and have used these in the past. I will see if I can locate some old ones I am not using. I now use the windshield style. I'll let you know!

Now that I think of it, I have a small stack with the Pennzoil logo at the top and the name of the garage that I used to work at on the bottom. They are from 1989 or so.

No Richfields though.

Do you want the type from the old days or simply something to help track oil changes?

I have the paper sticky type for door jambs or plastic easy peel type for glass. These are not old era, but new.

This gives me a good idea. We should have 348-409.com maintainence stickers. :) They not only keep track of oil changes and tune ups but remind you to go to your favorite site as well. :D

Thats not a bad idea Bob !!
Maybe the site logo on top with a design of one of the oil companies from the early sixties below.
Lets see if any of us can come up with an authentic sticker and work from that,,,,dq

We could even just let everyone print their own right off this site. All you need is some decal paper for your printer.

Here's a quickie:

http://wrench.vox.org/sticker.jpg

The logo is a bit blurry ay higher resolutions, but it's a start.
Resize to suit your door.

(just reviewed it and it pretty big!) I'll resize it if anyone wants it.

Kragens give those out free. ..just ask for them at the register counter. The clerk was telling me they have a lot of them because most folks don't know what they're for.

Well Richfield was bought out and became ARCO so I doubt that any of those are available. I don't like the small plastic things that stick on your windshield. I will try to find some that stick on the door jam. I change oil in everything I own so I don't go to lube places. I like the idea of printing your own, I'll see what I can do about glue backed paper. Besides it says 348-409 which is better than any oil company.:D Roy

The 348/409 logo is a good idea but I know my printer uses ink that runs if it gets wet so doing it myself won't work. I think it'd be neat to have nice little window stickers made up for the convention. If we did do that maybe the same people could also do oil change stickers as well.

You can color fast them (water resist) by spraying an acrylic glazing finish on them. You should be able to get it at any craft store or frame shop,,,,,dq

You guys got me to lookin' around the shop and I found a whole book of these "Ring-Free" Racing oil maint. stickers.

The area around the logo is shiny copper and the printing date on back is 2-66. Haven't seen Ring-Free around for a rather long time.:)

How about some that say Chevrolet #1 Team?. Wish I knew how to take a digital picture and email it. From the early '60's. Just dug some out. Top says #1 Team, bottom says Chevrolet Tonawanda Engine plant, middle lists : Milage and : oil, lube, oil filter, air filter, pvc etc (mileage space for each) wish I could send a picture. Anyway, from middle, late '60's, send me SASE and I'll send you 4 til I run low. Then Ebay?. HAHAHAHA!.

Hey Fran
The #1 Tonawanda Team was all the rage in the late 60's around here.
I've got 2 'W's and 2 BBC from there, these stickers would be a great touch.
The SASE is in the mail today. I put US$2. in the envelope for postage cause I can't buy US stamps here.
Thanx for the offer, hope I can return the favor sometime.

Hey, did you ever go to Niagara?

BJ: #1 Team started in 1964 I think, I have a cast #1 team licence plate frame that's not perfect, been looking since early '80's for one with no luck!.
Yeah, I raced Niagara, 1965/66 with a 1965 Plymouth Satelite 330hp 383 (me in '65, my 1st wife in '66) then was out for a while in 1967 witha 390hp Vette coupe, went back out for a while in 1970 with a 428 CJ Ranchero.

You guys sending me money DON'T (except the canuck for stamps), nah, even him, F it if I can't afford 37 cents for a canadian buddy (if that's all it takes, I'll have to check on that!). All I ask is a SASE, and a future posting as to how you liked it. If you know how to post a picture of it before I learn how that would be nice too.

Ok I'm ready to go to work and I won't put any money in it but I am going to send it fast because I don't want to get a " Sorry I'm out". And I don't want DQ to feel bad either. So Fran it's in the mail today.:cheers And I'm sure Dq can post a picture, he changes avatar's like I change socks.:) Roy

Hey Fran
Thanx for the offer of those stickers.
I may have raced against you at Niagara.......65/66/ I ran a 63 Vette Coupe 300 hp and then in 68 a new 427-390 Vette in D/SP.
Was building a 62 Chev II for D/G in the early 70's when they to closed up.
Do you remember a 64 Impala 409 (silver) that raced about every
weekend? Did you get to the reunion in '96?

Thanx
BJ

YA know, maybe we did, but then I think you ran Sports and I ran Stock (C/SA in 1965 and D/SA in 1966 when they reclassified the cars). In 1966 my (1st) wife had to run against Pete Fedun in a '65 or '66 Mustang (remember him?, he was a (cheatin') CANUCK!. Ran with parts that were given numbers by Ford of Canada, or so we were told. My wife and him in the final every week, I'd be in the tower and watch the *itch tree his sorry *ss and then watch him drive by at 1000 feet. What fun.

In '67 I was running 13.40's/.50's with my STOCK 390 HP 427 in C/SP. I ran with the side pipes removed (not exactly legal). I ran Costilo& Larson (yeah THAT Larson, of funny car fame) in a C/SP Cobra. He held the record at 12.41 (pure race car). They came over to see my Vette, said the exhausr was illigal, I said you got me by a second, but I'll put the side pipes back on if you insist. They said it was OK. Then they asked me what I had done, I said "nothing" which was true. The I said, I really should put some headers and gears in it, and put on a better set of slicks. They walked away scratching their heads. In 1968 a guy in Florida built a REAL race car 1967 Vette and bombed the record into the high 11's. So much for the Cobras!.

Don't remember the silver '64, but there's a video tape of 8mm movies of Niagara from 1959 to 1974, I'll review it and look for it and your Vette (what color?).

Never went to Niagara Reunion at Lancaster, a) conflicted with our race at Super Chevy Maple Grove and b) don't (yet) have a car earlier than 1975 to race.

AH, the GOOD old days. PS: Remember a maroon 1962 Bel Air 409, the "Mongoose"?.

Hey Fran
They put the 63 in C or D stock which I protested at the time.
Never did understand why, it's too many years ago now.
The 63 was a brown coupe (they didn't call them split window back then) and ran mid-high 14's with a 411 gear.
The 68 was dark green with a white top. It ran D/SP with similar times to yours at 105mph. That was on closed exhaust and street tires with a 355 gear.
Your 67 had a Holley and my 68 had a Quadrajet, maybe that was the difference or maybe the 68 was heavier.
I'd come out about 1100 and get on it going thru the traps just into third. Put 8" Hossiers, hedders and a 410 gear and ran 12 8's/9's........but mostly ran the 68 out at St. Thomas.
Sure do remember Larson's Cobra....may even have b/w around here of it.

bj: probably more the exhaust than the carb. The Holley was a 585 vac secondary on the '66/'67 390 hp. My trap speed was 106 107, 3.70 gears and a TALL re-cap cheater slick. I did a burnout for the Knight brothers (ran a 1965 425hp yellow coupe), laid down two real nice black strips, 2 inches wide!. they told me to re-camber the rear so it would be flat across. But warned me it would be hell on the street, and I should expect to start snapping axels!. Needless to say I didn't. Also I staggered my shift points, 5300 1-2, 5500 2-3 and 5700 3-4 for my best times. We ran ONE time at night, I ran a 13.28 backed with a 13.35 in the cool air. Wish I knew then what I know now!.

Looking forward to them......
Do you ever get up to the cruise at Mapleview Mall in Burlington on Wednesday nights in the summer.........they get about 5-600 cars and usually a few 409s and lots and lots of #1 Tonawanda Team big blocks.
Do you remember when they first put the #1 Tonawanda Team decal on the right side rocker cover of the Mark IV?

Ya know I should know, but I don't. I think it had to be in 1965 because I don't ever remember seeing them on 409 valve covers. Got a bunch of those too, but the backing is a pain to get off. they're 30 years old now!.

Hey Fran
Some of the research I've done does not show the decal before 67. Some local NCRS boys say it is 67 as well.
I remember noticing them on the new 67 big blocks but don't remember if they were put on earlier.
I'll check with a friend that had a new 65 396 Vette and see if he has any pics of the engine.

BJ: Your probably right, I don't remember if my 66 Vette had them, but I don't think so. Also, Flint had them too.

Fran I received my stickers today, thanks so much, they were just what I wanted. I wonder if they can be copied or would Chevrolet look on my door and call the cops. What I would like to do is make copies and use the copies on my car. The originals I would keep just that, as original. :) Roy

DQ: As was stated it started in 1967, so I would believe right from the start, 1967. Of course you could use it on an EARLIER car where the oil change was done when it had some miles on it.
