I met a guy in 1969 who had a silver 63 ss 425 hp T10 336 posi for sale.He said if I paid him what he paid for it new I could own it.His price was $5400 .I told him he was nuts, nobody would pay that for a 6 year old car.He still has the car(34000 miles)won't sell, won't show, won't talk about the car.I kick my xxx every time I think about it.I'll have to work on his son after he dies.
Some members bought NEW 409 cars---break our hearts and tell the price please.
Thank Dan

I got my 64 in Oct. 63.

340 hp 409, Super Sport, Black with red int., 4 speed wide ratio, 3.36 posi, 14x6 wheels, 8.00x14 whitewalls, AM radio, rear speaker, rear antenna, white floor mats front and rear (from dealer accessories, but included in price) $3925 (give or take $10, can't remember)

I did not order P.S. and P.B. and regret it now.

I traded in my black/w black top, red interior 1959 348 tri-power convertible. Beautiful car, like new at the time.

I got $1500 for the 59 leaving $2425.

Good Morning All,
Last day of 2003...

Anyways, Im curious too... Does anyone know what a new '65 cost ??? ALSO, where on earth does one go to have a window sticker replicated. I got a new blank from Sinclair's Impala parts, but have no idea how to code it or where to have it typed up... Any insights there would be appreciated !!!

I bought a 64 Super Sport 2 dr 340 HP 409 with muncie 4 speed. All white with light blue interior. Wonderbar am radio with rear speaker. Heater, no power steering or brakes. $3695.00 in Covina California. I had no trade so it was down payment and $84.00 a month. Loved the car and I rode to work with 2 other firefighters and we traded off driving, Freddie Folta loved it when I drove because he got to drop me off and then he drove my car to his station house. Hey Dan

In 1963 my brother priced out a 63 SS 409-425 4 speed at Golden Mile Chev in Toronto (still there) and they wanted $3785.
Remember US/CDN money was pretty close then.

Rockfish, my 66 Impala (not an SS) 427-390 4speed, ps, pb, posi, listed at $3612. Car was bought in Tennessee.

As for window stickers, check this link out.
I've used them several times and their product is excellent.
Maybe Bob can add this link to our site.

when i bought my 63 in 1976, the guy gave me all he had kept. thank god i took the pieces of the tattered window sticker to the library (the only place on the planet to have a xerox machine in those days.) he bought it at a blacksmith shop that could order chevy's called hall shop garage in clarksville, md. he drag raced it for a while then let it sit. when i got the car it had'nt run since 1968 it took me till 1982 to get it clean and drag race it also. i didn't drive it from 1988 till 2002 it just turned over 38000 mi. only a few people ever drove this one. i gave $400 for it then.
originally i had no intention of using the 409 or restoring the car. i just wanted to dump the L-88 from my 62 in it and race. good thing time prevailed over my idea.
the sticker reads like this:

1847 impala 8 spt cpe $2774.00
1812 D black trim $00
1922A solid red $00
1M21M 4 spd closeratio trans $236.75
1L31S turbo fire 409 eng $320.65
1L80A dual 4 barrel carb $56.00
1G80A positract axle 411R $43.05
1P77YS 800x14 2 PLY WSW $35.80
1T60C heavy duty battery $7.55
1Z02XF pb radio & speaker $69.95
1Z01XK C & C grp.. includes $30.15
inside no glare mirror
outside r view mirror
2 spd washer & wiper
1 B70A padded inst panel $18.30
1Z03J Sport eq..includes $161.40
bucket seats
spl whl trim & emblems
side moulding inserts
frt seat console compt
special cover plate
floor mntd shift lever

destination charge $66.00
total amount $3819.60

a duplicate of the original is still in the window after all these years. people never fail to amuse me when they read the numbers. there's always 1 who steps up to say, "i'll give ya that for it" i say, "OK but there's a 25 thousand dollar storage fee on top of that" we all get a chuckle. that's what shows are about right?

Grumpy - WAAAYYYY COOL!. I love doing that, comparing old prices with what it would cost in today's dollars.

Looks like my price book compares favorably to Walkers prices only doesn't list the 2x4 as an option over the single 4 motor, just two different prices.

I'm not really positive of this, as it was a long time ago, but I think I remember my 63SS 409/425 as being $3150.00 out the door. I sold my 58 convertible for $800.00. ( DUMB now looking back ) I'm not sure if the $3150 was before or after the $800.00 I had. Pretty sure it was paid on the $3150.00, as I remember the Pontiacs were about $4000.00 for a Dual 4 Pontiac engined car. That seemed like to much to spend, so I went with the Chevy. I do remember seeing the Z-11 option in the book, and thought ( remember, we drove the race cars on the street most of the time ) Sure didn't want those soft aluminum fenders for people to lean on and dent. And 5 more HP? Come on. For $1200.00?????
No way I was going to spend that kind of money. I wasn't stupid, you know.

Thanx Jim, That's a keeper. I actually got my nick name from someone at my first job calling me Steve Bungee cord. (my last name is Bungarden) It eventually got shortened to just Bungy and it's stuck with me ever since.

Phil, Those are some cool photos that you posted... Really enjoyed seeing them

Thanks so much for sharing them...I noticed that the price for a PG was the same as for 4 speed...

Imagine those prices ???

Of course when a person was making about $100 a week, that would have seemed expensive Im guessing...
