Hi Guys: Just curious HOW MANY 409 MICKEY CROSS RAMS ARE OUT HERE????

I have 1, Jim has one on his 57, I heard that there was a casting problem with the 409 mickeys due to porious material. So there was a high amount of rejected castings.

So just wondering how many of us are lucky enough to have one???

Thanks 09PWR

Yea Mike; thats what made me think of doing the poll.

Thats the first one Ive seen up for grabs in over a year.
I had heard that there was only about two dozen ever sold due to the casting problems.

So I,m figureing that a good percentage of manifold owners are either members here or at least guests.

So rumer has it with only two dozen built, how many have actually survived.

I know of three in ontario including mine, plus Jims and the one on ebay brings us to five.

19 more to go!!

friend of mine in springfield has had one for about 20 years, are they really that much better or do they just look cool? I seem to rememder him having it on a stock 425 hp dont know if it ran any better than the stock 2x4 or not. one thing that did make it run a bunch better though was a pair of holleys insted of the african four barrels.

M/T cross rams for Pontiac are fairly common. There were even a few different castings. For them a cross tube connecting the two banks seems to dampen reversion pulses. They generally go for around $400.I've got one I had converted to fit the late model heads instead of the early Pontiac heads(different water jacket and slightly different port bolt patterns).

There was one for sale here in Houston a few years ago for an 09 with linkage for $1000. I had a chance in 1971 to get one but I read the IHRA rules in Formula Stock to not allow "ram" manifolds" for multi carbs. Saw several BBC with Edelbrock Cross Rams racing, oh well.

Can still run Holleys on our factory dual quads. Offy makes an adapter to turn them sideways. Ran two vacuum secondary 715s without the vacuum dumping all 8 barrels at once on mine the 70s. Never got around to machining the progressive 660 carb linkage for them(stil got them in the attic!)

Just got off Ebay, 50 pages of intakes and fuel systems!. Two Mickey cross rams, one was going for over $1900!, one for over $1700 (better one) and reserve not met. I see them regularly at flea markets for $400 plus minus $100. I know where there's one in Buffalo, from what youse guys are saying their not THAT rare!. But I'll tell you whut, if they're going for over $1500 on Ebay I know where I'm gonna make some easy money!.

Well guys with the second one that just appeared on ebay that brings the total to twelve!!!!!!!!!

Thats not including the one that was passed on years earlier as it could be one of the one,s now accounted for.

I would still consider them a pretty rare commodity.

I consider myself very fortunate to have one, with only twelve accounted for sounds like theres more Z11 cars than crossrams.

Thanks Guys I really appreciate your input!!!!!!!!

09PWR crossrams and clutch pedals 4 ever:cheers

I you sure you aren't seeing ones for other motors? I've yet to see a 348/409 version at swap meets, but have seen quite a few for different motors.

Sure 09, but I never said I'd rip off "the rest of you", don't put words in my mouth. That said you'd have to be pretty stupid to hold on to one when you could MAKE $1500 plus dollars, unless you were like saboo and needed one for a restoration project. And, by the way, if you don't like the price, DON'T BUY IT!.

There would be no way of knowing how many were produced...but consider the tooling and dye mold costs!! There is no way only a hand full were made. I would guess hundreds were made to amoritize the tooling costs.

And yes, they have been above $1000 for some time now...probably a couple of years. Not saying there aren't out there for $400 but if that's the case, they USED to belong to uninformed sellers!!

did it make the car faster, yes but there was other changes so can't say, but jim and vals 62 was quicker with a charge to holleys instead of the afb's they were running on there mickey. ah know of one other also hanging in a garage but can't be bought and he has no 09 or 348 motor, but it is his and thats the way it goes, maybe some day.

Fran-please refrain from making comments such as this. (this applies to everyone) Im getting complaints on a regular basis about things like this.

I've tried "subtly" hinting around for this to stop, even added to the FAQ but I see it still persists.

We are a tight knit specialty group here and need to get along.

If this continues, I will have to take it to the "next level" beyond warnings. Anyone care to guess what that is???

And now back to the topic...

But wait, there is another!
"I spied" a Mickey 409 Cross Ram a few weeks back at a swap meet (the Jan. Turlock which is one of the bigger in Calif.) and it was for sale.
We walked up and he had this monster sitting right out in front with no carbs on his blue-tarp . No price, but the tag read, "Super Rare 409 M/T Cross Ram" ...where 'super rare' translates to 'super expensive'!
Playing stupid, but realizing the value, we started a conversation with the guy. By the end I finally asked the price... and he mumbles, "$2400". I didn't know if I should laugh or cry.
My brother being the smart-*** and in a state of shock says to the guy, "$240 dollars??? Hum... That's not too bad, but I don't know..."
To which the guy then in a louder tone, "No, I said $2400.00...this is NOS!!!":deal

Needless to say, we passed... and it was still there Sunday afternoon.

First, I appologize for having to edit or remove a few posts from this thread but feel that it was necasary.

In the future, if anyone feels that another member is doing something out of line in any way shape or form, please contact me right away rather than throwing words back and forth. That only adds fuel to the fire.

To be fair to everyone here as no one likes to see this type of behavior, starting immediately, anyone that breaks any of our (more than fair) rules here, will be placed on a 1 month ban from posting. Trouble after that will result in a permanent ban. I only do this in hopes of getting our board back on track.

I truley hope, that I never have to do this to anyone here but if warnings won't work, what choice do I have?

For the record, this applies to everyone here and im not singling out any 1 member.

Bob, let me be the first to say that I support you 110%. With alll the troubles in the world, it's a shame that a group of people that have a similar interest have to resort to such a level. I don't accept it from my seven-year-old, and I would think "mature" adults would know better(thats the way I was raised).
