View Full Version : Groove on end of cam

After checking for clearances with the crank (modified 427 crank to fit 409 block and application), I next went to slip in the cam and look for clearances between the cam and the connecting rods. Everything looks good, but I have a question about the grooves in the cam and the cam bearing.

Both the cam and the end bearing have this groove in it. Are they BOTH supposed to be grooved? Must be for oil passage? Just checking, trying to get it right before moving forward and balancing the parts.

Thanks!

Tom, Not sure about the cam but sometimes they cut a groove in the front bearing to oil the cam gear thrust bearing,,,,dq
