I AM PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE FOLLOWING:
The INAUGURAL 348-409 NATIONAL CONVENTION will be held September 15 thru 18, 2004 in Kansas City, MO. Activities on Friday will be held at the new Kansas City Exposition Center....the parking lot will hold in excess of 750 cars and we will have 35,000 square feet of inside space as well as a separate conference room. The banquet Friday evening will be held at the Expo Center also. Saturday will be the day at Kansas City International Raceway hosting the "348-409 FALL NATIONALS" racing program.
The Kansas City Exposition Center and our host hotel, to be named later, are located right across Interstate I-29 from Kansas City International airport in the northwest part of Kansas City, MO. The Expo Center has I-29 on the west and I-435 on the north for fantastic access.
This will be a 4 day event with practically all of the activities on Thurday, Friday and Saturday.
I will post a complete schedule of events late next week!! I received some really fantastic news this afternoon but will have to wait...sorry!!
Mark this on your calendar...IT'S GOING TO HAPPEN!!! The very FIRST of it's kind!! Talk with your boss...if he won't let you off to come...get a new boss!!!! Rockfish.....if I have to....I'll start a nursery for you!! Better yet...bring the new baby and your lovely bride too!!!! If you name the new baby "Impala"...I'll give you a door prize!!
Everything is falling in place now. It's taken longer than expected but I really feel that these 4 days will provide everyone, reagrdless of your preferences, with a lifetime of activities memories. I haven't been able to book the Beach Boys yet but everything else is LOOKIN' GOOD!!!!
More next week....

Phil,
Are you planning on doing a webpage for this? If not, I would be willing to give it a go. Something that lists dates, events, directions with maps, local hotels, restaurants, etc. (and anything else of importance)
Would also like to make a banner ad announcing this and put it on some of our pages. Perhaps members that have webpages would also like to put the banner on their site with a link to the information page.
No time like the present to start spreading the word.
Bob

Congratulations to everyone and a huge Thank You to Phil for making this happen. Not only is THE EVENT going to really happen, but it appears to be being done first class.
These events have a huge cost personally to the organizers, in the time required to wrap up all the details, and the expenses can often start to undermine the plan. I therefore want to make a suggestion that is totally voluntary in nature. I belonged to the New England MGT Register for many years and one of the things that was done there was an "IN SPIRIT" registration. For those that knew they were unable to attend, but wanted to get the patch or other insignia that commemorated the event , theY would register "IN SPIRIT". These funds were used to offset the development cost of printed matter, patches, plaques etc. They usually came as early registrations and formed a "float" of funds to finance the develpoment of these things, or whatever deposits etc. that had to be laid out.
I wanna be there, but don't know if things will work out this way.....BUT I CAN SMELL THE RUNNER BURNIN' NOW!
Wishing this event and all who will attend a "Dream come True"

The "car show" will be outside...that's why we have such a big parking lot. The inside space is taken up.....details on that to follow next week.
I don't know of anyone with a mobile chassis dyno. Can you imagine a line of 450 cars waiting to "get it on" to see what their car will do!!!!:D :D :D
We will have provisions for regristration packets for those that can't attend. I'm getting ahead of myself here but have tried to cover most possibilities!!
JUST CLEAR YOUR SOCIAL CALENDAR TO BE HERE!!!!

Nice job Phill!!!!!!!!:D ;) :p :cheers There aren't enough icons to celebrate this news.
WAAAAHOOOO!!!!! This is going to be a great event! I wish Tony S had an engine lease program for the 409 so that I could enter my car – a one event/race deal. Thanks Phil for pulling together all of the details to make this happen. I look foreward to meeting everyone in 09 (September).

This is amazing, Phil:cheers .... it's gonna make the LGC convention look second rate !
Thank you for the personal invite..... BUT..... it all depends on my dyno numbers ( and the suspense is KILLING ME:cuss ;) )
I'll know pretty soon.

Aubrey:
You will receive a personal phone call from me....like that's a big deal!!...next week. We have some "other business" I want to talk with you about.
BUT.........and I'm sure I speak for alot of people, and this goes to other ones thinking the same way as you............we are not interested in strictly "the dyno numbers".......WE ARE INTERESTED IN THE MAN BEHIND THE DYNO NUMBERS!!!!!:D :D :D You and I have talked over the phone now for probably 15 years and you're saying you can't come to meet everyone because your dyno numbers aren't what you expected????!!! WE DON'T CARE!!! Be here and tell us why they were so good or tell us what you need to do differently go get them higher!!!
Same philosophy with the guys who haven't the time to get their car painted "right". Wrench is driving his in primer.....RIGHT ON... THAT'S THE WAY THIS NEEDS TO BE!!! This is a gathering of the W Brotherhood....that's it!! This is a chance to meet "friends" and get to know everyone on a personal basis. If we wanted to have this Convention in Sept. of 2008...there would still be people who think they wouldn't have enough time to get ready for it!!
I'm not picking on you personally Aubrey...I'm just trying to get you to change your thinkin'!!!!!! Besides me...Denny Ford wants to meet you too!!!! But I'm betting that after you see the schedule that I post next week......you won't be able to stay away!!!!
I'm off my soap box now and I won't say anymore!! (maybe!!)

Ditto to what Phil just said !!
My money come in spurts ! Sometimes I have piles and sometimes none,,,, but I`ll be there even if I have to sell the dog !! (no wife to sell )
And my car,,,,,, Far from the fastest, shiniest or finished !!!
But if it runs ,, it will be there ! If not "I" will be there !!
Simple as that !! SO,,, pack your bags !!
I can`t think of any other car event that I`d rather be at this year !!!,,,,dq

They weren't all perfect then.

Bring `em all !! The idea here is to bring what cha got !!
This isn`t going to be a " my car is a better higher numbers car " type of convention.
This is a gathering of we love OUR/YOUR car as it is event!!
BJ hit it on the head !! SURVIVORS !!! Thats what all our cars are !!
Any and all conditions !!! We don`t care !! They are all great !!
This is the message that needs to be broadcast !!!
Can you imagine seeing every type of "W" powered car in every kinda condition in one location !!!
SSpev,,,,,,, I think you would be supprized at how much attention a car like yours gets !! I crawl around a car like yours as much as anyother car !! And I bet you already know that !!
See you there !!,,,dq

I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. the 61 Biscayne is far from what I would call a survivor. The floors are RUSTY. The inner rockers a SHOT. There are bubbles all over. Its been painted at least 2 times. Originally fawn beige with grey inside. It was a 6 glide. I put the w in after I saved it from sitting beside a garage. I have don't nothing to it but put the engine and tranny (350 slipper) in. And put some covers on the seat to keep the ripped up stuffing from falling out.
IF I do bring it, I hope to have a custom 10 bolt, built by myself, with 4.10 and a better tranny.
BJBURNOUT,
As for the 65 Biscayne It is more fun right now, 396 4 spd (sorry). I drive it often too. I was for a 409 but I had the 396 parts so I used them. It need a little work too. Got a 12 bolt 4.10 and a super t10 waiting. But... I'm wearing my clutch on my leg.:cuss
DQ I wouldn't want you to get cut on rust crawling under it:eek:

OK,,,, I`ll use a mirror on a stick !! :D
Bring it anyways,,,,,,,
Sometimes you can be more impressed with a rusty , bubble paint driver then a finished car !
Maybe we should have a rat trophy for the best rat car !! YES?
Most bike runs and bike shows do !!,,,dq

You can add my 63 in the running for rattiest w-car! I've got some rust in the quarters, fenders, a little in the trunk, worn out carpet, a single white 64 ss bucket seat in the front (passenger side rigged to fit on the drivers side) some old 70s pin striping on the doors hood and trunk, and even a little red shag carpet on the bottom of my pass door panel! Watch out for this one!

I will be there even if my 55 isn't. My summer will be shot building a garage so I'll be lucky if I have windows and lights in the 55 by September. I for one want to see those rusty drivers! If they have a W under the hood, nothing else matters. Period!
Now, What's up your sleeve Phil? :D NUT

Roy and Carl
Roy....that would be just like Weekend at Bernie's......now that is dedication.........I love it.
And Carl.........I don't see the problem.......let her get married at the Convention.
I can see it now,,,,,,,,Phil as best man.........and look at all the ushers she'll have.....there's no better music than a 'W' with open headers.
Your sister pulls up to the line in a 409, ready to launch and since Bob is our Captain, he will have the authority to marry them.
Then the parade.........ooooeeeeee...all those 348s and 409s rumbling down the strip and up the return road........ah I can see it now......and no, no, DQ and I will not be Bridesmaids........
There it's all settled........and this would certainly raise Roy from you know where.......
