Hello,
I recently rebuilt my 327 and was checking the timing today and heard a ticking noise. Pulled the valve cover and one of my rocker arms was so loose it was off center, the reatiner nut was finger tight. . Well checked it and found a bent pushrod. This engine has not been run hard or more than 1 hour since rebuild. Im pretty sure I adjusted them correctly. Any ideas? I had more push rods, added a bit of locktite so im back in buisness. Drew.

About 20 years ago I put a 350 together that was doing the same thing.I don't know if I was right or not,but I figured the cam I got had too much lift for the stock pushrods,so I had the heads drilled and tapped for screw-in studs, guideplates and hardened pushrods. That fixed it!

Thanks Ed,
I dont think the cam is too large. Its only about a 454 lift and I bought all the components (cam roller rocker amrs, timing, lifters, etc)from the same manufacturer. Looks like my threaded rocker arm stud had a thin thread on it( maybe a cross threaded nut at one time?) Im hoping the thread locker will work. Now it feels like its making the power it should. If that doesnt work I might take your advise. hate to take everything apart again.Drew.

Maybe you can put a Heli-coil in that !@#%ed-up thread. A whole lot easier than taking off the head!

I am not sure if you were talking about a screw in stud or pound in. If screw in, yes heli-coil will fix the head. If pound in, you still don't have to remove the head. That stud can be pulled and a new one installed. Just be aware that the new one will probably be an oversize, like .003 over, and the hole must be reamed oversize first. Otherwise there is a good chance of cracking the head.

Do Not put a chev stud in there unless you ream .003 first.

What you do is buy one for a 289 - 302 Ford they are std.Same size that you take out.A .003 will crack boss without reaming.

When you drive it in take a rod thats bigger than stud ,sit it on stud and hammer rod anything that round and flat will do.

Hope it helps.
